New Year's Eve 2020/2021z. Rack of lamb with Sue and Richard Spooner. Deep cherry, raspberry and earth tones. Full but smooth body. Excellent fruit. Alcohol not prominent. Well balanced. Super wine. Drinking well now. — 4 months ago
A Chenin unicorn that flys off any wine list it finds itself on. In this case, 86d out of only 6 bottles received by Per Se. The nose is what is most captivating. So unique. It’s a bit less reductive and perhaps more exotic than the Noels de Montbenault of the same vintage. It’s layered with flavors of ginger, Leflaive-like sesame, dried apricots, sour apple and salted hazelnuts. There is good richness and a wild texture that’s balanced by fine acidity. A delicious Chenin that I wish there was more of! — 2 months ago
Black fruit w black olives. Rich w well developed tannins and long finish. Was Richard Arrowood still there in 2003? — a month ago
Rich Ruby in colour. Aromas of mocha oak, plum, cherry and blackberry. Hints of prune and dark chocolate. Great fruit quality - Cabernet 52% from Coonawarra and 48% Shiraz from the Barossa. The percentages are correct - they may tinker with the source from Penfolds vast resources. Dry but polished tannins. Typical of the longevity of nearly all Penfolds Reds, this is the first of 6 bottles at 13 years of age. Richard Hemming MW has a drinking window of 2020 to 2043 so this is just the beginning. Have the next in a few years. — 2 months ago
