From the master, Raul Perez with fruit sourced from his family estate, the Joven (rabbit label) is predominately Mencia from 40-60 year old vines and aged in INOX.
Splash decanted directly before service; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2023 pours a deep purple color with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of blackberries, Montmorency cherry, horse blanket, purple flowers, licorice, and crushed rock. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. Charming, rustic stuff. Drink now through 2030. — 4 months ago
A 100% Cariñena wine from 100+ years old vines’
Decanted for 3 hours!
Explosive nose with ripe sweet black fruits, herbs from the Porrera hills, authum forest, Llicorella, creamy notes, lovely ripened fruits on the full bodied palate, subtil flavors of cedar wood, wonderful acidity structure, great balance, creamy, spices, polished tannin and long aftertaste ! Already a joy to drink 95 DSP — 7 months ago
Decanted for 1 hour and it tight and complex. Mellowed out after we paired with our meal. — a year ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2022 pours, a bright magenta color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of fresh strawberry, watermelon, kiwi, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with low tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This is a deliciously quaffable Rosado and yet has enough complexity and “je ne sais quoi” to grab one’s attention. Drink now and over the next handful of years. Uncle Raúl is a master. — 2 years ago
Dark red fruit, spices, herbs and lots of tannin — at Quinta da Auga — 13 days ago
A nice Mencia from Bierzo, Ruby red color, purple hues, with aromas of juicy red fruits, spice and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of cherry, tart strawberry and cranberry, with spice and gentle oak notes, very Rhône-like. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, spice and earthy character. Nice! — 5 months ago
Light footed and quite light bodied, yet with nice tension, beautifully integrated tannins and a juicy flow.
Dark fruit (black cherries, mulberries) and turned earth with a hint of tar and leather but also with a floral whiff adding freshness & lightness.
Juicy, with a certain effortlessness yet with quite some depth and a dark, rocky mineral core.
Somewhere between a good Morgon and a Baga - this is delish! And with just 13% alc, dangerously gluggable. — 6 months ago
Mid range Raul Perez, I actually found this more pleasing than the higher range — a year ago
Raul Pérez rarely misfires. Yummy godello/dona blanca blend. — a month ago

Was a little worried I killed a baby at 6 years, but it’s drinking wonderfully pnp. Big sour cherry, some grip, looking forward to see how this evolves over the evening. — 4 months ago

Opened about 30min prior to service. The 2024 “Sketch” pours a pale straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of bright stone fruit, lemon/lime pith, beeswax and wet stones. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long with crazy salinity. This was a beautiful pairing with the toro crudo prepared with red yuzu kosho, arbequina olive oil, finger lime and basil blossom. Drink now through 2039. — 2 days ago
