Sometimes you’re at the PA/DE state line and staring down two bottles of Spanish red for paella night and you gotta figure which one you want to drink semi-sober and which one is gonna be that probably hammered nightcap with Sanf. When you make the right pick it’s so damn rewarding. — 5 years ago

So drinkable, better nightcap. Pinot Noir in It’s lightest and most playful expression Without for that sake being boring or predictable. Drinks so nice but drink fast, funk’s coming if you’re slow. — 6 years ago

PSI Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2015

Great nightcap while watching an old Bond movie! Powerful and fruit forward showing some hints of earth and oak. It’s always a strong Tempranillo showcasing the depth of tinta de toro and heat of the region. Be patient and give it time and will become a beautiful wine. If you get impatient like i did let it breathe. — 8 years ago

Château Suduiraut

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2023

Château Suduiraut, 2023, Sauternes BDX, France 🇫🇷

Overview
Premier Cru Classé Sauternes delivering pure botrytis luxury blend of 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Sauvignon Gris with remarkable tension and precision. Lush honeyed richness balanced by vibrant acidity and a beautifully layered texture that feels both decadent and weightless. Sensual, polished, and deeply expressive, this is a dessert wine that seduces rather than overwhelms.

Aromas & Flavors
Orange blossom, acacia honey, apricot confit, ripe peach, saffron, candied citrus peel, subtle vanilla bean, almond paste, and a whisper of ginger spice. Floral lift intertwines with botrytis-driven sweetness and fresh citrus brightness.

Mouthfeel
Silky, viscous, and coating without heaviness. Glycerol richness glides across the palate while acidity keeps the wine lifted, focused, and endlessly drinkable. Long, luxurious, and caressing finish.

Food Pairings
Foie gras torchon, blue cheese (Roquefort or Stilton), apricot tart, almond pastries, honey-drizzled chèvre, citrus-based desserts, or simply enjoyed solo as a contemplative finale.

Verdict
Sublime, sexy, and impeccably balanced. A masterclass in tension between sweetness and freshness, delivering pleasure, elegance, and emotional impact in equal measure. A benchmark nightcap wine.

Did You Know?
Château Suduiraut sits adjacent to Château d’Yquem and shares similar gravelly terroir and noble rot influence, often delivering First Growth-level finesse at a more approachable price point.

🍯 Personal Pick
This wine feels like a French kiss, seductive tension, velvet weight, and honeyed decadence wrapped in electric freshness. The viscosity caresses the palate while the acidity keeps everything irresistibly alive.

Oude Geuze

Bottled 28 March 2018. Blend no. 42. Season 17/18. Shared by @Bryan Frey for a delicious nightcap and to honor Armand’s passing on 6 March. Just a perfectly balanced, funky, citrusy, earthy lambic. Best before 2038, but there is no way I could get my hands on enough to test that date as they would disappear well before then. — 4 years ago

Tonight’s nightcap 🥃

Notes of honey, figs, and molasses on the nose; brings to mind a nice serving of bananas foster still aflame on the dinner table. On the palate smooth, balanced, and very expressive. This is a great Cognac without being a complete wallet buster.

Cornas Reynard (R) Syrah 2007

Allemand nightcap! From the terrific wine list at CUT Vegas. Allemand is truly one of my absolute favorite producers and this 07 Reynard from the master was superb. It’s deep, powerful and has a searing intensity. Ethereal and layered with dark fruit, coal smoke, black olive and violets.

There is superb concentration along with a firm tannic structure that is beginning to soften as it approaches its drinking apogee. It’s exceptionally well balanced with an incredibly long, palate saturating and harmonious finish with vivid energy and an elegant purity. WowWw. ☄️

Château Haut Cloquet

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

Picked up 2 bottles of this old mature Bordeaux in a wine shop years ago for next to nothing. The first bottle I had 4-5yrs ago wasn’t that great but given the ps I wasn’t complaining.

Had forgotten I had this second bottle tough and found it the other day. Went in with low expectations (which helped) and was pleasantly surprised. The small pinot glass really helped the wine keep its complex aromas concentrated and serving it slightly chilled accentuated the acidity in a good way giving the wine a bit of freshness on the palate as well. Bruised plums and cassis notes combined with a it of licorice and tobacco. A fun little nightcap of a wine!

Tonight’s nightcap 🥃

During our stay at the hospital for the birth of our son some dear friends of ours brought my wife & I a care package. In it were all manner of goodies and treats, as well as a bottle of champagne and this scotch. They know us all too well 🤫🤷🏻‍♂️
.
Caramel, creme brûlée, charred orange peels, and Christmas spice cake on the nose. Mild notes of moss on the palate with a pronounced but welcome warmth on the way down. Smooth and perfectly suitable for ending the day with.
