Beau hasard! — 5 years ago
Thank you @David L for my Christmas in July WNH present - Sunday night zoom - we became secret Santa’s - amazed how well we did finding and sending covertly wines to others in the group and tasted blindly - this wine to me represents all that I enjoy from Napa and small production wineries - did not decant - Should have - by 2.5 hours mark this wine was in full attack mode - blueberry pie cedar tobacco- legs forever - tannins were supple - color was incredible- I thought because we did not decant that it was a 80/90 decade but the lack of decanting was fooling me - definitely new world and Napa - I got that - after decanted I would said 2010 2012 or 2013 - loved it and thanks again @David L for being Santa for coming to visit and for this lovely gift - by the way - I think you might have exceeded the spend limit lol - final thought - will cellar for 10 to 15 years but it is approaching the proper drinking window — 5 years ago
Cracking Saumur Champigny and once in awhile you just have to have a glorious cabernet franc, a la vu rouge mode...Barnhill — 7 months ago
Great value at $50.00 from K&L
Web notes,
The owner of this Chateau, Calon Segur takes some of it name Calon from the word 'calones' which were small transport skiffs that used to haul goods up and down the Gironde river. Back then boats were the best mode of conveyancing wine plus preferable to the reluctant donkey and other landlubbing transports. This fact is a big reason for this region's long successful trading history. Much to the dismay of more land locked wine making regions, Bordeaux enjoyed direct access to the water. Happily shipping great wines such as Chateau Capburn Gasqueton for centuries. As this red wine was transported away from the port, the owners would farewell it's strawberry and raspberry driven fruit flavours bound for distant thirsty lands. It's beautiful chalky tannins and fine oak would be missed as they were well on the way to our store's shelves, cellars and tummies. Hence raise a big cheers to the diminutive but very essential Calons! (And amazing value Bordeaux reds)
Chateau Capburn Gasqueton is situated in St Estephe, on the left bank of Bordeaux, France. Grapes have been grown on the property's grounds since the 12th century. However, the 18th century saw it's elevation into quality wine production when Nicolas-Alexandre, owner of Latour, Lafite and Mouton bought the Chateau along with Chateau Calon Segur. From 1894 to 2012 the Gasqueton family owned the Chateau - producing wines of great finesse and elegance. In 2013 the French insurance company Suravenir bought Chateau. Since then they have heavily invested in upgrading the estate whilst ensuring they preserve this historic and treasured wine producer. Its vineyard comprises of 62% Cabernet, 37% Merlot and a petite drop of 1% Petite Verdot! — 2 years ago
This smells like a very young nose with cherry, rose petals, a bit of leather, a bit of coffee too. The palate is fresh, easy going yet a bit structured too. Good acid drive, nice leathery and cherry notes all along, some drying tannins in the rear that are not overwhelming though, before a long, nice finish with cherry and a tiny touch of umami, with a tiny meat juice touch. It's a great example of very well made chianti classico, enjoyable in pop and pour mode. — 2 years ago
Very nice surprise another homerun by self-taught winemaker Rick Small, 1988 was supposed to be a very good vintage with some aging ability but didn’t really expect this one to be so fresh at 32 solid Crimson color no amber or brick at the rim perfectly balanced acidity, bright fruit, deep, rich extracted flavors of plums and Other blue and black fruits, thick, Mouth coating viscosity but not overly so on the palate, good length, some cedar sneaking in but tastes more like a 10 to 15-year-old . . Wish I had a bunch more because this wine should last another 10 to 20 years if it continues in the current mode of evolution — 5 years ago

Terrific wine! Lighter in color but not in taste. Started off in full Zin-mode and gradually changed to be a bit dryer. Hints of toffee, caramel and plum with the slight touch of tobacco in later pours. A beautiful wine to drink on a crisp Fall evening — 7 months ago
