Savigny-Les-Beaune Pinot Noir 2017

Last night's wine we opened on my weekend journey in Burgundy was the 2017 Louis Jadot Savigny-les-Beaune Pinot Noir.

On the nose there is nice fruit, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, spice, herbal notes, menthol, oak and forest floor.

On the palate are beautiful rrd fuit notes of tart cherry, raspberry, strawberry, red currant, clove, spices, oak, minerality and earth.

This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that smoothly move into a medium to long red fruit and earthy finish. Let's continue to have a wonderful weekend and even though we seem to be on the precipice of moving out of this pandemic please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Les Lavières Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Very young. Decanted for 90 minutes. Subtle black cherry aromas. Strawberries, raspberry, cedar, and mushrooms on the palate. Good now but should improve immensely over the next several years. — 7 days ago

Charmes Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

Pale green in color w/gorgeous nose of honey, roasted hazelnuts, orchard & citrus fruit & gala apples, w/hints of vanilla & coconut. Soft & supple on mid-palate w/smooth clean finish. Just a bit flabby in the middle, but really delicious. — 19 days ago

Bressandes Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2003

Nose has chalky plum, dark chocolate bar, black cherry, vine smoke, blackberry and wet earth.

Palate has ripe blackberry, black currant, dried strawberry, clove with smooth tannins and a long finish.

I've always adored the Beaune reds (and whites) as beinging somewhat more weighty than most other Burgundy villages, and this bottle is no slouch! Slow oxidation for 2H then decanted 3H, still evolving in our glasses.

Pre-birthday dinner for our dear COVID bubble friend; we've only allowed one of our close friends into the house for almost the past year, tonight we're celebrating that he's one year older than me. 😉

Embarrassingly - never had this. Their quality is ridiculous. Will seek this out.

Clos Saint Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Dark rubi robe, aromas of dark berries, crushed flowers and a hint of cinnamon. Brood and rich body but very complex too. This is great stuff and requires 5 years more to show its best. Enthusiastically recommended. — 24 days ago

Blanc Fumé de Pouilly Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Pop and pour. Again, lovely. On the nose: grapefruit, gooseberry, cut grass, and a soft creamy note. On the palate: good acidity, fantastic density and creamy mouthfeel. Perfect with lobster pasta with red sauce. Yum, in the zone for my palate. — 6 hours ago

Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend 2007

Ming L

I still remember the first time I drank a Cristal, when a friend popped open a bottle (that he bought duty-free on a trans-Atlantic flight) at his SoHo apartment some 20+ years ago. Wasn’t much of a wine drinker then, but how wine could taste this good?!

Though from a lesser grand vintage, the 07’ did not disappoint. The purity of the fruits and chalky minerality are second to none. Crystal clear acidity provide great tension throughout. Graceful textured full body.

58/42 PN/Ch. Disgorged in 2015.

Blanchot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Medium lemon with aromas of rich stone fruits with subtle toasty notes. On the palate apple and pear with earthy nutty notes, gentle spice, great mouthfeel on long finish ending with an earthy mineral character. Nice! — 8 days ago

Château des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Gamay 2006

Pulled from my cellar and brought to Tasting Group. Decanted for sediment and served within 30 minutes of opening. Cork was pulled with a Durand; intact and saturated about halfway. In customary fashion, served double-blind to the group. The color is a deep, slightly hazy garnet. Medium viscosity. The nose is insanely expressive. Mushrooms and forest floor dominated early but these characteristics actually took more of a back seat to the fruit after about 30-45 minutes of air. At that point, desiccated red fruit with strawberries, cherries and cranberries were predominate followed by Salmiaki, dried flowers, with the mushrooms and the forest floor. Some baking spices too. Sneaky tannin…putting it medium+ and medium+ acid. Moderate alcohol. The finish was long and silky. Such lovely lovely fruit still and dare I say, intense! The group was all over France and Italy with some choosing Barbaresco, some saying Brunello, some in Burgundy and others saying Southern Rhone. All were blown away that it was a 15 year old Beaujolais. Drink now or over the next few years. — 24 days ago

Great note, this bottle exemplifies why we all should age Beaujolais! Especially MaV
