I never would have anticipated drinking my birth year of Cheval Blanc out of a Solo cup yet, here we are. The ‘81 is ruddy still; deep garnet color with some browning towards the rim and loads of sediment. The nose shows some of the telltale green-ness of vintage but everything has found harmony: the fruit has blossomed and structure has integrated. Dark fruited with tobacco, dried purple flowers, mushrooms, herbs and soft eastern spices. Charming! No particular rush to drink these but lovely now. — 2 months ago
What an absolute treat. Medium ruby in the glass with just a hint of garnet. Fruit and tannin almost completely resolved. The purity of the acidity is stunning but the most impressive part of the wine is the texture and mouthfeel. Silky and elegant. Earth and mushroom. Burgundian. — 2 years ago
Dark rubi robe with a hint of brick color on the rim, nose of crushed flowers, cigar box, tobacco and blackcurrant, medium bodied, complex, elegant, fresh and balanced, ready to drink but will for sure last a fee decades more. Great bottle and we are happy we bought others :) — 2 years ago
Medium garnet wide watery rim . No oxidation whatsoever , really quite floral and enticing on the nose , dried strawberry raspberry fruits , truffle , spiced old wood notes . On the palate lovely freshness and elegance with those red fruit, truffle and spiced strawberry, earl grey tea notes . Good length , just slightly drying on the finish now , apart from that this wine really does show well . Very elegant and precise . If you have the bottles open over the next 5 years or so . @ Rockpool Sydney , great suggestion from the sommelier even if I did really want to stick to Australia ! — 9 months ago
