2011 vintage, so low expectations, but wine is stunning. Grill aggregation unfolds into violets and cypress, bacon and porcini. Timber yard resins, reishi coffee, baking chocolate, burnt parchment, gunpowder tea, and dried rose petal. Soft, black and bing cherry serrated by black blades of dark tobacco, black currant, cassis, smoldering acanthus, crisp oregano, cardamom, and tart blueberry. Color is brick, edifice is showing cracks, but architecture intact. Don’t hold. Slay and ascend.

#pomerol that has perhaps peaked a few years back. Some primary black fruit on the nose still, leather, tilled earth. Youthful fruit on the palate, but a bit flat on the palate though tannins were typically silky. A wine that has held up for my wife’s 40th birthday but I hedged my bets with two other regions/varietals of the same vintage. Expectations were really high on this one - I’m a bit disappointed. — 5 years ago

Initially tight, reductive with earthy, charcuterie aromas. After over a day in the wine fridge, the fruit awakens, cassis, plum, with the undercurrent of cured meat, vanilla & pepper. This wind pours a dark plum purple. We decanted it for about half an hour first. It has flavors of dried berries, cinnamon, and other spices. It’s tannins were somewhat mild. Gift to my brother on his 40th birthday. #pomerol can be beautiful and this bottle certainly was. Plenty of primary black fruit left, sous bois aromas. Wine is alive on the palate, interesting peppery note on first sip, bright acidity balanced by earthy fruit compote. Lovely wine which shows a well-made Right Bank Bordeaux can be delicious over time even in a supposedly off year like 1981. — 5 years ago

Pleasing #pomerol - blackberry preserve, fig and forest floor aroma with faint black pepper. Mouthfeel a little lighter than expected given the dark purple color in the glass. Lush blue and black fruit carried by silky tannins reveal classic Pomerol from a very good vintage. This paired nicely with braised beef short ribs in a Bordeaux sauce at a nice French restaurant dining outdoors on a beautiful fall evening. — 6 years ago

Black with scant signs of bricking. Nose of forest after rain, ripe black cherry, black and blueberries, cedar, black pepper and violets. Full bodied, rich mouthfeel, with blackberry foremost, madura wrap, pepper, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, black cherry, walnut, currant, and blackened yam. This is a holiday in a bottle, at a perfect spot age wise, ridiculously resonant with a deep finish and long persistence. Open this one with family and friends and appropriate feast!
