2008 vintage. From the Knights Valley AVA (Sonoma). A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Very impressive. Ripe blackberry fruit, spices, and truffles jump out of the glass. Powerful and elegant at the same time with layers of black fruit, great balancing acidity, haute couture tannins, and a very, very long finish. Irresistible now, but this should age well for decades. Blend of 67% Shiraz (co-fermented with 6% Viognier), 17% Grenache and 10% Mataro, deep Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits with floral, spice and funky reductive notes. On the palate flavors of blueberry and blackberry with black pepper spice, licorice with lively spice. Dusty tannins, long finish ending with fruit, slight oak, floral and spicy notes. — 3 years ago

2019 vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon (67%), Merlot (26%) and Cabernet Franc (7%). A classic Saint-Julien. Intense nose with cassis, blackberry , cedar wood and violets. Layers of concentrated black fruit in a powerful structure with ripe tannins and fresh acidity. This combines power and finesse. Long lingering finish. Highly recommended. Abv. 14%. — 3 years ago
This superstar 2012 vintage just doesn’t seem to miss. Especially not when paired with the elegance of Bollinger.
A gorgeous rose copper color in the glass. Plenty of fine bubbles that seem to just go on and on. The approachability of these outstanding 12’s is immediate. Wild strawberries and herbs shine on the nose. Red currant, raspberries, and stewed plums. Some exquisite spice notes along with white flowers. Tangerines and watermelons play a part.
The vitality and sheer energy of this is amazing. 67% Pinot Noir from Aÿ and Verzenay. 33% Chardonnay from Oiry and Le Mesnil sur Oger with 5% still red wine from Bollinger’s legendary Côte aux Enfants vineyard. Terrific youthful tension and balance. Zippy acidity with 8 g/l of sugar. Disgorged in August of 2019 and already showing some maturity.
Pure romance on the tongue. Silky smooth and elegant with fresh red berries and more spice on the palate. Saffron and honey with oak complimenting. The Lehmann Jamesse Grand Blanc provided more floral notes, while the Riedel Dom Perignon showed more ripe fruit and minerality. Both wonderful. Yes this will obviously develop over time and become so much more special but you deserve this now. So do I. Enjoy.

The 2006 Lafleur is a vintage that I have not encountered for a little while. It is similar to how it tasted at a decade old with wild strawberry, blackberry and hints of cooked meat on the nose, still pretty backward and needing time to meld fully. The palate is medium-bodied with still a slightly coarse entry that I don't think would be accepted by Baptiste Guinaudeau today, slightly tarry toward a dense and somewhat muscular finish. Maybe it's just missing Lafleur's usual charm? Yet it's still an impressive Pomerol that requires more cellaring. Tasted at 67 Pall Mall for The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide dinner. Tried twice. Blend of 67% Cab Sauv and 33% Merlot, bigger Cab% in ‘17. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, oak and spice. On the palate flavors of fresh blackberry, plum and currants with licorice and cigar box spice adding some cedar and slight floral notes. Fine ripe tannins, long finish ending with layers of fruit, cedar and spice. A joy to drink. Opening now but will last another decade+. Nice! — 3 years ago
