Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021

Light golden in color.

Strong nose of citrus, apples, lemons, light earth, pears, light oak and spices.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with red apples, lemons, limes, light wood, spices, light nuts and sea salt.

Tangy finish with lemons and light earth notes.

This 5 year old Chardonnay from Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley is still drinking very fresh, which I loved. Rich and smooth, nicely balanced and elegant, with a generous mouthfeel.

I had this vintage 2 years ago and it is drinking better now. Complex, fruit forward and interesting, with a light buttery mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, easy drinking, and good by itself as a sipping wine.

100% Chardonnay grapes were handpicked and aged for 7 months, on the lees, in French and American oak barrels.

Beautiful nose with blueberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, cola, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, rhubarb, light vegetables and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black currants, blackberries, cedar, sweet cherries, plums, tobacco leaf, eucalyptus, figs, light vanilla, earth, Indian spices, black pepper and coffee.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Shiraz from the Yarra Valley in Australia. Tasty and easy drinking. Fruit forward and nicely balanced. Showing lovely complexity on the nose.

This 14 year old is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

Feels like a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend. Very interesting.

Thank you Scott for sharing this with me.

I did not decant it, but let it open in the bottle. Good right out of the bottle, and gets better after 90 minutes of airtime.

Interesting that age transformed it so much away from Shiraz character!

@"Odedi", I bought some MUCH younger (2021? 2019?) Underhill Shiraz at the winery last December when we visited, so this note really caught my attention. If you ever get to the winery, one of my Top 10 ever (and I’ve been tasting for 45+ years) winery tastings!! Cheers, and GREAT tasting note!!

Maurice O'Shea Hunter Valley Shiraz 2000

Spice, Plum and Earthy aromas with a little mint - typical Hunter Valley aromatics with a bit of sweaty saddle. On the palate more full bodied than the old school Hunter Valley Shirazes. Handpicked from 100+ year old vines where Maurice O’Shea created his famous red wines in the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s in primitive conditions until his death in 1956. Most O’Sheas only hitting their stride after 20 years and this is no exception. I still have some from the late 90’s. — 3 years ago

Legend Honi Red Blend 2017

#kosherwineSunday.

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim. Very intense color.

Strong nose of black currants, sweet plums, cedar, cooked cherries, raisins, dried figs, vanilla, cloves, licorice, spices and peppercorn. Really enjoyed the nose.

Full-bodied and intense, with medium plus acidity and long fat legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with cooked cherries, black plums, dried fruits, oak, vanilla, licorice, alcohol, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Spicy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a big and bold Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Israel.

Rich and extracted. Spicy with a nice mouthfeel. Not for the faint of hearts, but I found it very tasty.

Still young and would be better in a few years.

Good right out of the bottle and better after 3 hours in the decanter. Much better with some air, so be patient.

Feels very much like a California Petite Sirah. Interesting stuff.

I had it all by itself by the pool.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc and 17% Malbec. Grapes were handpicked. Aged in French oak barrels for 15 months. Unfiltered. Kosher and Mevushal.

Lodi Barbera 2017

A pretty ruby in color.

Strong nose of blueberries, black cherries, strawberries, light oak, licorice, spices, tobacco, chocolates, maple, light vegetables and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with plums, pomegranates, cherries, blackberries, wood, spices, tobacco, chocolates and peppercorn.

Medium length on the finish with soft tannins and tangy strawberries.

This is probably my first time having Barbera from Lodi, California. Well balanced and interesting with a nice mouthfeel.

I could definitely smell and taste Lodi, but I won't be able to get the Barbera at a blind tasting. Feels like a lighter Zinfandel from Lodi, with more acidity then expected. Definitely has nice acidity for a Lodi red.

Alcohol is high, but not too noticeable. Good by itself or with food. Good for parties too.

Needs an hour to open up properly.

Nice and engaging and easy drinking and a good everyday wine. I paired it with fatty cheeses, almonds and dry fruits.

Mainly Barbera grapes, with a touch of Petite Sirah, were handpicked and aged in French and American oak barrels for 20 months (24% new).

Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Buttery, yet crisp.

Medium finish with bitter almonds and limes.

This this is an easy drinking Chardonnay from Spring Mountain District in Napa valley. Feels young and fresh, and showing mild complexity at this point.

Nicely balanced and spicy, with a buttery mouthfeel.

This is what one expects from a Chardonnay from Napa Valley, very true to the Terroir. Would be nice to revisit it in a year or two and see how it evolved.

Needs 15 minutes of airtime, and better when not too cold.

Good by itself or with food. Paired nicely with the Italian Prosciutto.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and raspberries.

This is a young Mourvedre from Washington State. Showing mild complexity and a soft mouthfeel.

Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years and see how it evolves.

Château Gros Moulin

Je Suis Côtes de Bourg Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. This is only the 3rd time Rémy Eymas made this handpicked selection of the best grapes of his estate. The 2010 and 2014 were both excellent, but this 2018 is in a different league. The two previous vintages were blends of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, whereas the 2018 is 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Malbec (I tasted the components from barrel last year and I was certain that he would add Malbec to the blend, as they were showing exceptionally well). Moreover, he moved to " vinification intégrale" with this wine, and this costly procedure is a real game changer. Easily the best wine Rémy has ever made, Je Suis 2018 is a spectacular wine that must be tasted to be believed. Beautifully complex nose with a panoply of red and black fruits (raspberries, blueberries , blackberries), roses, violets and delicate vanilla. In the mouth it features excellent balance with layers of fruit, juicy acidity, haute couture tannins and an incredibly long finish. The 15% abv. is well-integrated. If there was a classification in Bourg this would be definitely a First Growth. — 4 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Franc 2021

Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Strong nose of black fruits with cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, light herbs, earth, chocolates and peppercorn.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with blackberries, black currants, plums, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, light earth, herbs, spices, peppercorn and tobacco leaf.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This young Cabernet Franc from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now, but needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Feels like a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Smooth and elegant.
Rich and fruit forward. The high alcohol is not too noticeable.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 94 point wine.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This young Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Napa Valley is already delicious.

Rich and engaging. Powerful and dark. Still a little unforgiving. Spicy and fruit forward.

Much earthier on the nose than on the palate. Only after 2.5 hours it balances out, so be patient.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years, and has good potential to become a 94+ point wine. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

Bellwether

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Dense Ruby in colour. All the classic Cabernet descriptors - Blackberry cassis, black olive and of course Mint - textbook Coonawarra Cabernet. On the palate such purity - ground cocoa, call it dark chocolate, berry fruits, touch of cedar. This wine at 10 years of age, whilst only young, and will live at least another decade, is drinking beautifully now. Made by the talented Sue Bell who was the Dux of the 2007 Len Evans Tutorial ( a handpicked group of only 12 - outstanding winemakers, somms and other full time wine professionals. Aubert de Villaine every year generously donates a mixed dozen of DRC, such was his friendship with Len Evans and James Halliday). Needless to say Sue Bell has one of the best palates in the country. A few years ago she was a guest Judge at the Toowoomba Wine Show where I often judge. I was in awe of her knowledge and her palate. On the strength of this wine I will order her 2015 Cabernet. — 6 years ago
