Freakshow Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon

Color of dark purple, a bit grayish. Nose of cocoa, dark fruits like cherry jam, blackberry, a bit spice and vanilla, and strength of alcohol. Nose is quite sweet. Taste follows the nose with addition of peppery note, ripe grapes, pine needles, and low in tannins. Quite smooth. Aftertaste of some more lingering mineral note and peppery note. Cosentino Winery

Cigar Old Vine Zinfandel 2018

Color of grayish purple. Nose of cocoa, tobacco leaves, dried strawberry, cherry, strength of alcohol, a bit minty, and more cherry jam. Taste of cherry jam, good acidity, marginal tannins, medicinal strawberry syrup, bourbon barrel note, subtle rind, and ripe sweet grapes. Aftertaste shows some strength of alcohol and bitter rind to balance out sweetness. Not bad at all. — 6 hours ago

Mer Soleil

Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2017

Mer Soleil named after the two forces of nature – “the sea and sun.” Grapes sourced from vineyards in the southern and middle areas of Santa Lucia Highlands, deep Ruby with youthful aromas of red fruits and smoky pepper spice. On the palate flavors of cranberry, raspberry and cherry with toasty baking spice, savory, good mouthfeel. Medium+ finish, fine tannins well integrated ending with fruit and a toasty spice character. — a day ago

La Rioja Alta

Viña Ardanza Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2009

Nice $30.00 Tempranillo

235, The Wine Advocate

The current vintage of one of the flagship wines from La Rioja Alta is the 2009 Viña Ardanza Reserva, the second year it has contained 20% Garnacha grapes from their estate vineyards in La Pedriza in the village of Tudelilla in Rioja Baja. The Tempranillo comes from vineyards averaging 30 years of age in Fuenmayor and Cenicero. The hand-harvested bunches were sorted and put in boxes, transferred to the winery at 14 degrees Celsius to be destemmed and crushed, then the grapes fermented in stainless steel, including malolactic. The two varieties were aged separately, 36 months in used American oak barrels for Tempranillo and 30 months for Garnacha, and racked every six months. I

Venus La Universal

Dido Blanco Montsant White Blend 2017

About 20% of the grapes see skin contact which for me adds just the right amount of body and textural interest while preserving freshness. A little nutty, a little tropical, a little mineral, very delicious — 7 days ago

Leognan

Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan 2015

2015 vintage. The white Domaine de Chevalier is one of the greatest Bordeaux whites, and this 2015 is no exception. The secret lies in the terroir and the extreme selection of grapes, returning 4 to 5 times to the same vine in order to harvest only perfect grapes. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Purity, complexity, perfect balanced and terrific length. Not cheap at around 120 euros, but well worth seeking out if you can afford it. Moreover these wines age beautifully for decades. — 14 days ago
