Grand Point

Domaine François Raveneau

Blanchot Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 1990

Wow, this bottle showing amazingly open for business immediately (though I lost the battle to extract the cork fully!!). I’ve always thought that of the 3 Raveneau Grand Crus, Blanchot has consistently shown the most ripe tropical fruit undertones (of course measured by Chablis standards), whereas Clos is more intensely mineral and Valmur somewhere in between, and this bottle fits that pattern. From a little riper Chablis vintage (13.5% vs. more usual 12.5-13% ABV), this bottle is richly fruited, with plenty of acidity and some subtle minerality, with a very, very long, lingering finish, absolutely a great Raveneau Blanchot!! — 6 days ago

Still very tight.
Lets see what is brings on day 3.
So much better on day 3. Softer, smoother, more gentle.
Day 1 91
Day 3 94 so rounded to 93

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes. Maybe slightly less dense ruby, wider rim . More refined and quite elegant , medium bodied , slightly more cooler greener fruits . This quite aromatic initially, mix of red and dark hedgerow fruits . A little more refined and small boned , perhaps a little light a shorter than others . This was impressive out of the gate , aromatic and charming quite mineral also , though it was the only wine that faded a little with time in the glass . This appears to be at its peak though probably will remain here for another 5 -10 years perhaps — 7 days ago

Château Haut-Bailly

Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Still needs a lot of time 16 years on...maybe it will never reach its 100 point potential. Still an exceptional Bordeaux that improved markedly after 3 hours in the decanter. — 19 days ago

One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Blend 95% Cabernet Sauv, 2% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, splash of Malbec, more cab heavy than prior vintages, deep Ruby, aromas of ripe black and red fruits with floral and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry, currants and licorice with vanilla, cacao, cedar and savory herbs. Long finish, well balanced, full tight rich tannins ending with fruit, cedar and earthy character. Nice! — 4 days ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Deep ruby in color with slight brick color on the rim. Nose is quite pleasing with berry compote, lavender, and dark chocolate. Also a bit of earthiness. Wow. A great mouthfeel on this wine. Well balanced with tannins still a bit heavy. That said, I like my wines with a bit more tannic backbone. These notes are from pop and pour taste. Will let it open up a bit and will update if it changes significantly. — 8 days ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes . Medium deep ruby , thinner rim. Quite deep and spicy nose , dark fruits , quite classic . On the palate quite dense , but rounded and suave tannin . Quite dense and meaty after a while , long and really well balanced , good length and a mineral , slate tinged finish. In this flight this was quite obvious as Latour , just the structure and density marked it out . This is a good Latour to enjoy at the moment , the tannin is polished, good freshness and density. No rush however I expect this to continue well for a least another decade , maybe more — 7 days ago
