Francois Dauvissat

Domaine Francois Lamarche

La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole Pinot Noir 2017

Slightly brighter and more ruby garnet appearance . Narrow garnet rim . This has more crunchy , cherry fruit focus , with some chalky , dried flowers , wet stone hints . On the palate this mineral note is also present but with strawberry and red cherry , a bit more structure , tannins a little more present , but still with good refreshing acidity . Lightly mineral , cherry tinged finish . Pretty decent length and freshness , though the Malconsorts does appear to have more layers . This is slightly rustic , less polished in comparison with the Malconsorts, a little more nervy and edgy . Pretty young still , I would give this a bit more time, another 3-5 years or so , and then should drink well over the following 5-10 years . — 7 days ago

Vaillons Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Young, fresh, still quite primary fruit in this younger 1er Cru Vaillons, some tart lemon acidity, some fine minerality, a floral note as well, medium-long finish, needs a little more aging (2-4 years?) for my palate, but very, very nice!! — 4 months ago

Killer nose: stanky, lemony, green apple, with so much soil, stone, Kimmeridgian oyster-bed character and Chablis soul. The mouthfeel is the whole story here. Rich, juicy, opulent and hedonistic in texture, but absolutely alive, with real voltage underneath. Deep, layered, mouthwatering and beautifully mineral, with that classic oyster-shell salinity running through the fruit. A basic Chablis only in name. This has serious depth, energy and texture. — 2 months ago

Irancy Pinot Noir 2022

From a minuscule plot that covers barely more than an acre; this is one of Vincent Dauvissat’s rare red wines. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2022 Irancy pours a slightly dull, ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, fresh and funky notes of strawberry with stems, red flowers, and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A round and balanced expression of Irancy. No doubt the vintage comes into play. Lovely stuff with charming personality. Drink now through 2037. — 5 months ago

@Tom Casagrande believe it or not, I didn’t even know this existed until I was at a restaurant in Reims, late last year and it was on the list. I was like, 😳.

Les Rouges des Baties Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. Black plastic cork; the standard for Dard et Ribo. The 2015 “Les Rouges des Baties” pours a deep, dull ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of wild black brambles, oil cured olive, roasted meat, purple flowers, black pepper, a mix of organic and inorganic earth and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. An utterly beautiful expression of Crozes-Hermitage and this worked really well with goose from South Dakota. I’m smitten. Drink now through 2035. — 6 months ago

Montmains Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three days. Great on Day 1 and even better on Day 3. The 2023 Montmains pours a pale straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with bright, powerful notes of green apple, passion fruit, freshly struck match, lemon oil, white tree flowers, and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, floral and mineral laden with a silky texture. Simply fabulous. Drink now with patience through 2038. 4300 bottles made. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 16 days ago

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2012

Stunning. Dauvissat perfection. 2012 Clos is perfect tonight, with more fruit definition than Preuses as expected from the site. It’s textural, chiseled and powerful with Chablisen oyster shell minerality layered in a tidal wave of spiced orchard fruit and white flowers. It’s incredibly silky on the palate showing killer volume and density with racy citrusy acids and a sea spray-like salinity to round it out. When Dauvissat is on it’s hard to beat. And this is still young. — 5 months ago

No ratings on this wine in a while it seems. The 2024 vintage is quite quaffable, although more tannin than I’d expect in a carbonic wine. Perhaps semi-carbonic, with some time on that 100% whole cluster following the carbonic maceration? A very enjoyable wine though, fruit forward as you’d expect from carbonic but with more structure and grip. Well made. — 5 months ago
