Fire On The Mountain

Outpost

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Medium viscosity; dark, glass-painter. Warm cherries in black and deep red with brownie and tiramisu notes. Nano star anise, black pepper, and tea. These on the nose. Sublime mouthfeel showcases the blackberry, black currant, boysenberry, coffe and sweet tobacco notes that rotate into a persistent resonance.

Estate Bottled Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Deep ruby in color, almost inky, with a reddish rim.

Nose of blueberries, black currants, black plums, light oak, earth, dark chocolates and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, stewed cherries, spices, oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, light earth and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and sour raspberries.

This young Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley is still very young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature.

Fruity and interesting. Spicy and entertaining. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.
Feels like a Left Bank Bordeaux at this point. Very Interesting.

A good quality wine that will continue to age nicely in the next 25 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

Needed 3 hours in the decanter to open up properly.

I've had a few vintages of this wine, and it definitely needs time to show its capabilities.

A good food wine that will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and a touch of Merlot. Aged for 18 months in (65% new) French Oak barrels.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

2021 vintage. Medium body but plenty of grip on the finish and structure throughout. Slight amount of herbaceous influence. $40 resto cost hard to pass up so didn't. 10.16.24. — 3 months ago

@Tom Casagrande It’ll be on the list for just over $100. Picked up 3 cases so we’ll have it for a bit but the holidaze will def put a dent into our inventory on it.

La Jota Vineyard Co.

Howell Mountain Merlot 2020

Blend of mostly Merlot with a little Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of ripe dark fruits, sweet spice and espresso notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and black cherry with toasty oak, cacao and espresso. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and sweet pepper spice. Will age, but nice now! — 12 days ago

Quilceda Creek

Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

I gave this a lot of air and it’s still not where I was hoping it would be. Sure it’s not a CA Cab but still. It’s light on the palate, not a great finish and a more tannic, drying overall than I prefer. — 2 months ago

@Shay A , respect your experience as you make have tasted more than than I ever will. In general, my experience is that most U.S wines don’t have longevity like many old-world wines. But my comment does not apply to all. Frankly, after all these years in bottle, if it hasn’t come around by now, will it ever? And if it does, was it worth the wait?

At 2600 you are no slouch @Ron R not sure this will come around but if it did it was worth the wait :)

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Traditional Bordeaux-Style blend. Very dark ruby color with slight hints of purple. Savory aromas of earth, baking spices, herbs and black cherries. Ripe plum and black cherry flavors with additional hints of baking spices, tobacco and dried herbs. Pleasant creamy vanilla oak note on the long finish. Dusty tannins and well balanced. Opulent, complex and still quite fresh for a ten year old wine. — 2 months ago

Fantastic. Enjoyed our last bottle of a case of 2013 on Christmas Eve. Sad it's gone. — 25 days ago

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1989

After 35 years I was not expecting much. Especially when the cork disintegrated on opening. Aureated on decanting and was happily surprised. After about 20 minutes opened to dark chocolate, leather but so smooth. The last glass was pure delight. Howell Mountain at its best! — a month ago

Hillside Blend Howell Mountain Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Deep inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Pretty nose of red and black fruits with cedar, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco, light bell pepper, herbs, dark coffee, dark chocolates and black tea.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, black currants, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper and spices.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious 5 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Howell Mountain.

Elegant, rich and robust. Feels like a Right Bank Bordeaux, which is very interesting to see.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours in the decanter. The high alcohol is well integrated now.

Still young, and needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly. Would continue to age nicely in the next 15 years.

Good by itself or with food. Paired very nicely with my steak and roasted potatoes.

A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot. Aged in (60% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months.

15.1% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

On 9/21/24, we had a horizontal tasting of 2015 Spring Mountain wines. All were ready to drink. All had tastes of blackberry, blueberry, cassis and cocoa. All were good. Juslyn was a little different and just a shade above the rest. — 4 months ago
