A nice comparison of French St. Julien and French winemaker, in the US with a Napa Cab.
The 1972 vintage was one of the legendary five Cabs selected for the 1976 Paris Tasting.
This 1975, had a deep garnet color with a brick rim. Loads of blackberry on the nose, casis and earthy notes. Fruit forward, black fruit and plum dominate, nice tannins. This wine definitely evolved through the evening.
Previous Notes Apply to the 75 St Julien:
Deep ruby color. Aromas of red fruit, leather and earthy notes. Amazing flavors, blackberry, black currant, tobacco and baking spices.

Deus Brut des Fiandres. To celebrate love to Paris with Yegana and Zulfugar! — 3 years ago
Made by Paris Sigalas, this single grape 100% Assyrtiko white wine from the Greek island Santorini. It is rich, concentrated and minerally with a taste of ripe melon and pear. The wine can easily age for more than 10 years, where this 2016 appears still young and very fresh. — 4 years ago
When we went to Paris a couple of years ago, my wife and daughter had fun shopping but by the end of the trip I had bought nothing for myself. So they (out of mild guilt, perhaps?) urged me to get myself something nice. So on our last day I wandered into @la_derniere_goutte and poked around until this bottle (and its astonishingly good price) caught my eye. So I brought it back and last night opened it with some of our very best wine-loving friends. Never having had a Selosse rosé (not even when I visited Anselme for a tasting) I didn’t know what to expect. What I got was dried orange peel and wet leaves, a touch of toasted brioche, a little salinity and a hint of caramel, all with a soft, slightly fading mousse. It didn’t blow my mind (as Selosse wines often do) so I have a nagging sense that my bottle might have been light struck or slightly oxidized, but as someone who appreciates oxidative winemaking, I enjoyed it a lot. Only one thing to do, and that’s try another bottle sometime. A blend of Chardonnay from Avize and 2 vintages of Pinot Noir from Ambonnay. Disgorged in 2017. — 5 years ago
Falling in love with this wine again. It was brilliant a few years ago, and I was worried it could be at peak now, but 9 years of age and still going strong! This is surely one of the best values I have ever found @ €6 during Paris foire du Vin. Easily could fetch €60+ in a different bottle. Undergrowth and oak influence is strong and balanced. I feel like you can almost taste the earthy terroir's influence. Notes of 🍒, cassis, framboise. Thick, medium to full bodied and solid acidity. Potential for aging a bit more. — 7 years ago
Musk, Holly berries and bramble, pine needles, iron, velvet, driftwood, hints of coffee and bold red meat. There’s berries in there, red, lush, ripe and dark, but it’s so well integrated into the perfume (and it is perfume) that it’s impossible to separate them. Like a thin spread of preserves and dank basement. Palate has that lean nature of Syrah, between medium and light bodied, tannins present, but molded well into the palate, not ostentatious. Lush, silky dark red and black fruits roll forth, along with some charcoal, graphite, blood, and iron. — 4 months ago

Grgić Pošip, Korčula Island 2022
A Croatian white with California roots and Adriatic soul.
Crafted by Grgić Vina, the Croatian project of Napa legend Miljenko “Mike” Grgich (of Judgment of Paris fame), this 100% Pošip is sourced from steep, sun-drenched vineyards on Korčula Island, overlooking the Adriatic.
Pošip, a native Croatian grape born from a spontaneous crossing of two local varieties, delivers a crisp, dry, and complex profile. This 2022 vintage is beautifully aromatic, with notes of citrus, ripe melon, apple, and savory herbs, rounded by hints of vanilla, hazelnut, smoke, and lemon rind. There’s even a faint whisper of resin and orange blossom in the background.
On the palate, it’s voluptuous yet vibrant, a brilliant balance of brisk minerality, layered fruit, and a clean, snappy finish.
Pairing tip: It sings with seafood, think oysters, shrimp pasta, grilled white fish, or even creamy pasta with wild fennel. Also works nicely with soft cheeses.
A standout wine that’s both regional and refined, offering a true taste of Dalmatian coastal charm.
Cheers!

Ruby colour of beautiful intensity. Peppery nose, fresh red and black fruits, animal notes, bacon, and smoked. A racy, straight Cornas. Velvety mouth texture. Syrah as we like it. 2014 a vintage a priori not obvious, which will have ended up finding its balance in its ninth year.
— 3 years ago
Light crisp with a hint of Citi is , not to bubbly . We had at Apicius in Paris — 5 years ago
The nose shows syrah usual traits : pepper, blackberry, there is even a bit of bacon in there! Definitely northern Rhone red. The palate is well balanced, there is a good acid drive in there, there is a bright fruit, some width, some matter, a good mouthfeel, lively tannins with a drying effect in mid palate and a long finish with fruit and pepper and that drying effect for quite a long time. I have been missing that wine for as long as we moved to Poland. I used to buy it from the grocery store downstairs back in Paris for 8 euro. I was so psyched to find it in the Wine shop downstairs here in Warsaw! As always, this is a solid CDR. — 6 years ago
Dry up front but wet finish. Lots of refreshing blackberry. Not too sweet. — 7 years ago
Almost effervescent with acidity, bright, with tart cherries, the funk and slight brine of olives, and a pleasant mid-mouth weight. — 3 months ago
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; enjoyed alongside the 2020 Cuchet-Beliando, over the course of a couple hours. The vines for Vincent Paris’s “Le Geynale” are none other than the 100+ year old vines that he inherited from his uncle, Michel Robert. The 2020 “Le Geynale” pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. The nose is incredible, a bit like a pile of ripe black and blue fruits were placed inside an old world deli case and garnished with purple flowers. The wine is developing with blackberries, black plum, fig, lavender, black pepper, cured meats, oil cured olives, dried green herbs and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Outstanding stuff. Drink now through 2050. — 5 months ago

Burgundy 🇫🇷 is renowned for its Chardonnay, but did you know that Aligoté is the second most planted white grape in the region? 👀
Some of the finest Aligoté comes from ‘Bouzeron,’ an appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise region (north of Mâconnais, south of Côte d’Or).
In a land of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, Bouzeron AOC is 100% dedicated to producing Aligoté 🙌🏻. In fact, it first became a legally-recognized AOC in 1998 thanks in part to the efforts of Aubert de Villaine, the winemaker behind this beautiful bottle. 👏🏻
Interestingly, Aubert is also a co-owner & co-Director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) (and, as an aside, was on the tasting panel for the 1976 Judgement of Paris 😆)…
Yet, instead of devoting himself exclusively to DRC — one of the world’s most famous and prestigious estates — he and his wife, Pamela (a California native), were enchanted by the possibilities of Aligoté, and terroir of Bouzeron, where they put down roots through “Domaine de Villaine”.
This wine is Domaine de Villaine Bouzeron AOC (2019). It has a shimmering lemon robe and bouquet of white blossom, just-ripe white peach, yellow apple, pear, citrus, fennel, and wet slate notes. It’s remarkably fresh on the palate with mouth-watering acidity balancing the warm (14% ABV) and fruit-driven profile. It’s positively delicious!
We’re pairing it w/ pan-seared sea scallops, roasted asparagus, & lemon-herbed farro…
Cheers to nurturing the diversity of Burgundy in all of its splendor! 🥂

Smells divine. Notes of cherry, dark chocolate, and currant. Jammy, full bodied and delicious with an oaky toasty finish. A little sweet, but not enough to bother. — 5 years ago
Willi’s Wine Bar in Paris. Deep dark ruby. Opaque and not showing much age in the glass. Knock out nose. Notes of dark fruit and blueberries, slate stone, pepper/spice and some floral thing. Very rich in the mouth. Silky. Long finish. Syrah at its best. Really liked this. — 7 years ago

On 50th anniversary of Judgment of Paris, the red winner. Decanted. Amazing fragrance including black cherry. On the palate, complex layers. Smooth Tannins at 5+ years old. These age beautifully. May 2026. — a month ago
