Belle Glos

Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

Ming L
9.2

The house style is still here with ripe, slightly over extracted blue fruits, baking spices, cocoa, and a plush velvety palate. But the fruits become less confectionary and some savory components have emerged. Acidity seems more apparent. Really nice integration.

I think Pinot bottlings from Belle Glos are at their best with 5-8 years bottle aging. This is another proof.

Château Belle-Vue

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

2014 vintage. From the (great) pre-Treasury period, this is a classic Haut-Médoc, well-situated between Giscours and Cantemerle. Solid colour, with little evolution for the vintage. Cassis, cedar, violets and spices. — a month ago

More acidic tension than the 21’ vintage I can remember. Love the hint of bitter grapefruit skin note. Highly enjoyable on a hot summer day. — 2 months ago

Combe Ballard Canyon Trousseau 2022

Light garnet color. Very interesting nose and palate of red fruits, rose petals, dried herbs, black tea, bergamot and sweet baking spices. Hint of eucalyptus on the long, complex and earthy finish. Smooth tannins. Lively, bright and very well balanced. Nice concentration for a light bodied wine. Excellent! — 2 years ago

Belle Epoque Brut Champagne Pinot Meunier Blend 1996

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1996 Belle Epoque pours a deep straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is vinous with generous white peaches, raspberries, white tree flower, marzipan and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. The 1996 balance of acid and ripeness is so special. This gained energy with air. Drink now through 2036. Disgorged May of 2004. — 19 days ago

La Combe de Malleval Condrieu Viognier 2018

Apricot City! Nice to compare this with Australia’s top version of Viognier, the Yalumba “Virgilius” which we had yesterday and I preferred - definitely better value for money. Richard Hemming MW thought the Stephane Ogier was light for a Condrieu. 100% Viognier, 33% new oak. — 2 months ago

@Bob McDonald Was pouring this btg for two years before sliding into the 2019 for a year. It had nice stone fruit and a most excellent (and curious) beeswax/honey note. Cheers!

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego I reckon a wine like this would be a huge hit by the glass.

Combe Aux Moines Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2022

2022 vintage. Sampled via Coravin. Medium-medium heavy body. Vineyard from the highest point in Gevrey-Chambertin. Gorgeous throughout already with surprising, back-end spice fest. Tannins slightly muted but started to creep out after a few minutes in the glass. This likes to speed and is going places. 1.30.26. — 7 months ago

Excellent invention under the right circumstances. The 9 yrs of remaining storage after use, in my experience, overstated.
