A rich crimson red in colour. Cassis , bay leaf mulberry and notes of violets. On the palate black currant, restrained yet sweetish - see notes from a year ago in March 2020. Sam Middleton, part owner and winemaker likes to drink Quintets between 10 and 15 years of age although I have had much older examples from friend and longtime Mount Mary collector, Dr Peter Sklavos. One of Australia’s classiest Cabernets. Not as minty as Coonawarra or as herbal as Margaret River. Commemorates the passing of founder, Dr John Middleton in 2006 as on the label. — 4 years ago

I used to think there was no such thing as too big, tannic, and hit you over the head of a wine so long as it was well done. Well, this is very well done and excels at what it seems to be aiming for. But at this point in my evolving taste, it’ seems on the knife’s edge of being very enjoyable or too much. It comes close to drinking like 100% petite sirah. — 3 years ago

2018 90+ “Oakville”, Cabernet Sauvignon (Collection Series)

A deep garnet color with legs that go for days. The nose is lavish and clearly made from outstanding fruit. Moreover, the aromas of cassis and even notes of earthy elements like truffle fill the olfactory with joy, frankly. All of that leads to a remarkably approachable/alluring palate that broadens as it breathes and covers the senses with deep flavors of cassis that not only reflect but expand on what is so evident upon the nose. It’s remarkable in its mouthfeel: rich and concentrated while at the same time extremely refined and openly expressive.

The finish leads right back to burying your nose back into the glass. Genuinely impressed with this, the first of the Collectors’ Series from 90+ Cellars. — 4 years ago

Bloody, iron rich Grenache nose, sous-bois, heading for the grave but there’s still life in the old* bottle. Perfect cork,
I wonder if they were ever redone. Came from a collector, no way to tell. (Well, I could contact the winery) I digress.
Coffee and bark around the edges, a bit of heat on the palate but not distracting.
The acidity is on point. There’s some of deep orange as well.
Svelte for a CdP. Terrific juice
