Nose is lovely but starts off a bit funky. Gorgeous minerals and florals. Elegant snd delicate like Gallet can be. Game, herbs and meat. Sweat. From working in the fields. Major terroir wine here. Palate is juicy, lush, elegant, delicate and pure. A bit closed but all parts are there and it’s just paint by numbers at this point as it airs. Long finish. Terrific fruit soak and concentration. Shows the succulence and fruit forward quality of 2017 and those sweet velvety tannins. After three hours the texture gets so silky. Awesome great sweetness and meatness. — a day ago
Nose has ripening pineapple, orange peel, melted butter, warmed ripe peach and dried oak.
Palate has waxy orange peel, pineapple, Clementine juice, mild vanilla influence with light acidity and medium finish. Light on palate concentration at this stage.
Decanted 5H. Youthful, a first check on our Fall 2020 acquisitions which will go into hiding until at least 2026+
24H Update:
Nose is overflowing the Gabriel Glas with tropical fruits, ripe pineapple, pineapple core, Clementine orange zest, ripe mango but a touch of alcohol today. Palate has gentle lemon zest, pineapple, so much pineapple, just crazy! We love this wine and it only gets better with aging! Score change from 9.1 > 9.3 today. 🤯 — 9 days ago
2021/4 with roast pheasant breast with pheasant fond, truffle butter and cabbage. As seems to happen with reds from my (overly cold?) cellar, this still seemed to be emerging from adolescence - not quite what most would expect from a 14+ year Chalonnaise wine. Then again, I’ve always found the 2006 reds from Burgundy to be a little blocky, and little blowsy. Still, this was tasty and had hints of emerging complexity. It also still had the price tag on it, and I marveled again that de Villaine has barely raised prices in well over a decade (the recent, pricier line of 1er crus being new additions to the lineup). Please, please, never change. — 2 days ago
Insane florals. Purple rose is accurate. Lilac, violet, cassis, strong black licorice on the bouquet that’s redolent with dank purple florals. Very sensual. Palate is dark purple/and black fruits, but they dance across the palate weightlessly. Ground stone, gunpowder, and dark mineral undertones with a hint of charred fruitwood smoke giving this depth. A bit inky but really silky and gentle at the same time. Intoxicating; you just want to keep your nose in the glass. In an awesome place and can only get better. — 5 days ago
Nice nose of dark fruit and some Vosne spices, the style is slightly extracted, generous with gorgeous fruits and strong powerful tannins, very nice but a finish that is a touch rustic. 89-90
Beau nez sur les Fruits noirs, des épices et un style assez extrait et généreux en bouche, beaucoup de fruits, des tannins puissants, beau vin mais un peu rustique en finale. 89-90 — a day ago
Initially pretty muted before a sufficient decant allows the sister’s magic touch to slowly be revealed. When it finally does come around, it shows superb delineation, balance, detail and finally does unfurl a wondrous bouquet. Fresh red and black fruit, exotic spice, and a touch of saline on the energized and mineral infused finish.
It shows good verve and signature MG elegance and purity. There is plenty of depth but what’s missing is the length and persistence you expect from this wine. In hindsight a pre-dinner decant would have served well, because the last pour was the best. Nonetheless, more time will allow for the palate to come around. — 18 days ago
Straight out of Barbonne, comes this 100% Pinot Noir champagne that’s full of life and character. Aged on lees for two years and disgorged on 6/2/17, that little bit of extra time makes a difference. 8 g/l isn’t too much, it’s still a smooth pour. This is a little under the radar gem that I went into with knowledge and was so pleasantly surprised. Intense but great for all occasions.
A highly expressive nose featuring roasted almonds and a slight touch of raspberries. Marmalade and tea biscuits accompany. Really nice acidity and chalky minerality. Those Pinot notes really shine on the palate with cherries and kumquats, along with the faintest hint of earth. A really nice champagne that hits all the high notes. — 5 days ago
Served blind, very Chardonnay and even Chablis like before it was revealed. A delicious salinity and minerality to go with gorgeous orchard fruit, a slight touch of oak but not too much, great acidity with some roundness and richness that makes it very balanced. Great for the level, very nice bottle. 90-91 easy

Wide open nose. Spice, minerals, hint of framing oak, mid season red cherries and sour cherries. Really fine and delicate aromas. Palate is lush, succulent and balanced but also holding back. On the elegant side of Pommard for sure. Really finessed on the palate with excellent length. Great sweetness, energy and sap. Extremely transparent and as it airs the texture gets more alluring and silky. Spectacular. — 20 hours ago
