Marie Demets

Intransigeance Pinot Noir Chardonnay Brut Nature Champagne 2018

Graciously gifted to Holly and I by Pierre and Mathilde Demets. Popped and enjoyed directly from the bottle, on the streets of Paris, in celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary. “Intransigeance” is a fabulous cuvée made from a combination of selected fruit from both “La Forêt” in Gŷe-sur-Seine and “Fins” in Neuville-sur-Seine; 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay. No formal notes due to the setting but I can confidently state that the 2018 vintage is utterly delicious. We laughed and reveled as we took pulls under the Eiffel Tower and walked to lunch through the 7th and 6th. We had a blast. Disgorged July 6, 2023. Only 7306 bottles made. We need more Intransigeance, please @Lyle Fass ! — 7 months ago

Château Lafleur

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2006 Lafleur is a vintage that I have not encountered for a little while. It is similar to how it tasted at a decade old with wild strawberry, blackberry and hints of cooked meat on the nose, still pretty backward and needing time to meld fully. The palate is medium-bodied with still a slightly coarse entry that I don't think would be accepted by Baptiste Guinaudeau today, slightly tarry toward a dense and somewhat muscular finish. Maybe it's just missing Lafleur's usual charm? Yet it's still an impressive Pomerol that requires more cellaring. Tasted at 67 Pall Mall for The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide dinner. Henry's Seven Barossa Red Blend 2018

Blend of 67% Shiraz (co-fermented with 6% Viognier), 17% Grenache and 10% Mataro, deep Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits with floral, spice and funky reductive notes. On the palate flavors of blueberry and blackberry with black pepper spice, licorice with lively spice. Dusty tannins, long finish ending with fruit, slight oak, floral and spicy notes. — 4 years ago

Bollinger

La Grande Année Brut Rosé Champagne 2012

This superstar 2012 vintage just doesn’t seem to miss. Especially not when paired with the elegance of Bollinger.

A gorgeous rose copper color in the glass. Plenty of fine bubbles that seem to just go on and on. The approachability of these outstanding 12’s is immediate. Wild strawberries and herbs shine on the nose. Red currant, raspberries, and stewed plums. Some exquisite spice notes along with white flowers. Tangerines and watermelons play a part.

The vitality and sheer energy of this is amazing. 67% Pinot Noir from Aÿ and Verzenay. 33% Chardonnay from Oiry and Le Mesnil sur Oger with 5% still red wine from Bollinger’s legendary Côte aux Enfants vineyard. Terrific youthful tension and balance. Zippy acidity with 8 g/l of sugar. Disgorged in August of 2019 and already showing some maturity.

Pure romance on the tongue. Silky smooth and elegant with fresh red berries and more spice on the palate. Saffron and honey with oak complimenting. The Lehmann Jamesse Grand Blanc provided more floral notes, while the Riedel Dom Perignon showed more ripe fruit and minerality. Both wonderful. Yes this will obviously develop over time and become so much more special but you deserve this now. So do I. Enjoy.

Oakville Ranch

Field Blend Zinfandel Blend 2015

67% Zinfandel - 33% Petite Sirah. 100 cases produced. 15.9% alcohol. Great drinking wine, crowd pleaser. Didn’t taste like it was that high of alcohol percentage. Dark berry, cassis, with a very “thick” mouthfeel. If you like the old Prisoner or Venge’s Scout’s Honor then you will love this wine. I would either aerate it or decanter it for at least 30 minutes. Lots of life yet. Great QPR, especially coming from a small higher end Napa producer. — 7 years ago

Château Lascombes

Margaux Merlot Blend 2022

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Pretty nose with wild flowers, black fruits, light cedar, earth, Indian spices, dark coffee, tobacco leaf and herbs.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cedar, cooked cherries, spices, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn and earth.

Long finish with grippy tannins and tangy cherries.

This delicious Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Margaux is still so young, but drinking beautifully already. Rich and soft. Complex and interesting.

Showing good structure with a spicy nose. Needed a long time to open up properly.

This 2nd Growth Margaux is Complex and nicely balanced. Ripe and delicious now, but in your face kind of wine.

I had the 2018 not too long ago, and it was drinking better. Needs a few years to relax in the bottle. Would be nice to revisit it in 7 years, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

A good sipping wine, that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Aged in (60% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$90.

Estate Vineyards Les Pavots Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

2008 vintage. From the Knights Valley AVA (Sonoma). A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Very impressive. Ripe blackberry fruit, spices, and truffles jump out of the glass. Powerful and elegant at the same time with layers of black fruit, great balancing acidity, haute couture tannins, and a very, very long finish. Irresistible now, but this should age well for decades. Château Lagrange

Pagus de Lagrange Haut-Médoc Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

2019 vintage. From 13 hectares in the Haut-médoc appellation. In this vintage, the Cabernet Sauvignon was extremely concentrated, which explains the unusually high percentage of Merlot (67%). A serious wine, that is drinking well, but should further improve over the next few years. — a year ago
