Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley

Philip Togni Vineyard

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

One of my favorite Spring Mountain producers. Philip and Lisa do an incredible job with their wines. As you know a 2014 still has 20-30 more years to go but we certainly still enjoyed it now! — 15 days ago

Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

I was absolutely blown away by this wine on my birthday 25 May 2021. There are many excellent descriptions of this wine here on Delectable, but the fruit is still there and marvelous. I wish I had much more. It is much better than when it was released. — 25 days ago

Barnett Vineyards

Rattlesnake Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

2013 Vintage. Old-school Napa style. Huge fruit balanced with high tannins/acidity. Massive and has at least two decades of good drinking left but firing right now. Hard to imagine it getting better. Decanted for an hour before tasting. — a month ago

School House

Spring Mountain District Pinot Noir 2010

Wow!! 11 years and this hasn’t lost a thing. A good bit of sediment when opened. Funk took a minute to blow off. Not the typical Cali Pinot fruit that hits you, this is more subtle. Leans more towards French style. Still crazy amount of acidity. Absolute winner. I picked this up off Last Bottle and I’m regretting not grabbing more. I am now searching out School House Pinot. — 24 days ago

No surprise at all these wines Pinot & Chardonnay’s last for decade plus. Must try Au Bon Climat / Jim Clendenen wines . He recently just passed. These wines will go decades. Extremely recently priced. Generally taste better with 5+ years on them. Some people would argue that certain vintages taste better with 10+ years on them. Cheers .

@David L I appreciate the information. I read about Jim Clendenen. Now I need to look for his wines as well. I really enjoyed this style.

Nothing quite like the one you’re trying now. Jim’s wines are much more New World. Especially in their youth.

Little Sister Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Ok - another 2011 Napa cab that is much better than critics say - Thomas Rivers Brown is winemaker - the wine even could go another five years - with WNH gang - I was amazed at the vibrancy - deep rich purple color - good balance - length was shorter than hoped for but nose and palette were full of dark black cherries blackcurrents and tertiary notes of cedar tobacco and cocoa - a great QPR for a TRB Napa cab — 13 days ago

Cain Vineyard & Winery

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Cain Five and Waygu strip steak(from Snake River Farms) zoom tasting with Chris Howell(owner of Cain) and Chef Hiro Sone (owner/chef of the former Terra in St. Helena). 2008 vintage and 2013 vintage.

Prior notes apply for the 2008 vintage.

2013 vintage: 1 hour decant (some cloudy sediment). A dark garnet color with a little bricking. On the nose: certain vintages of Cain embrace the Brett on the property, and this is one of em. Some funky barnyard (luv it), plum, pine, tobacco, smoked meat, forest floor, orange peel. Taste: smooth medium plus body wine with plum, pine, currant, coffee, and a bitter chocolate dry medium plus finish. Some tannins still kicking wanting a few more years in the bottle.

Smith Madrone

Spring Mountain District Riesling 2017

Pale lemon in color with a yellow tint.

Pretty nose of lemons, citrus, yellow apples, diesel, light tangerines, light river rocks, spices and minerals.

Medium plus in body with high acidity.

Dry on the palate with citrus, spices, lemons, apples, light earth, minerals, light sea salt and white pepper.

Tangy finish with limes and grapefruit.

This is a delicious Riesling from Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel.

Still young and would benefit from a few years in the bottle. Already drinking nicely with nice balance.

Good by itself or with food, and better after 45 minutes of airtime.

Not as complex as the 2016 vintage, but time will tell as this evolves in the bottle. Still very yummy.

A great sipping wine and a good pool wine too. Fresh with a dry finish.

I paired it with Cedar Planked Salmon on the BBQ.

12.9% alcohol by volume.

91 points.
