Clos de Malte Santenay Chardonnay 2011

Nose has oxidized yellow apple slice, dried papaya, candied pineapple, hay bale, cold candle wax, oak shavings and buttercream.

Palate has dried pineapple, dehydrated lemon, pineapple cake, limestone sand with a very long finish.

Lightest color of yellow in the Gabriel Glas, by far the least visually oxidized version of this wine of all prior. Fresh as a Spring day!

Cavanos Saint Joseph Syrah 2016

Consumed directly after the 2015 Cornas “Le Village”. This was just a notch below that wine in my opinion. Right now, the structure is taking center stage and not allowing the fruit to deliver in the same way its cousin is giving. I also think the Cornas showed more complexity. Not that this isn’t endowed with fruit or complexity. A very lovely wine though. — 3 days ago

Love every vintage of Gonon- the best St. Joseph IMO. So expressive and giving seemingly at any age, as it was here with 2016. My second 2016 in the last few months. Signature inky purple. Deep and intense with great texture showing black fruits, liquid minerals, newly bloomed violets, black olive and hints of cacao. Wonderful concentration, energy and finesse. Stains the palate with a long and assertive finish. Excellent. — 11 days ago

Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.

2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.

It will be 5-8 years before I open another.

Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux.

This is having a great moment. Smoke, olives, dark berry fruit, blueberry. Huge granite and deep mineral tones. Juicy, so fresh, deep and concentrated with outrageous purity and a long finish. Loads of medium to dark berry fruit and really really long finish and also serious structure. What a showing. This has got 15+ years ahead of it but is fun today. Louis Barrouol 2009. From Schneider’s $40 ca 2012 has 2009 on 10/12/20 as third day birthday and in memory of the spring 2011 pilgrimage there. Rainy fall day. Mashed blueberries, pomegranate nose,in background of smoke and farm hayrides over clay. Big rich bold on front of mouth. Black cherry juice. Slight pomegranate chalkiness. Smooth overall but broad tannins settled down —mostly strike front “shoulder” of tongue. Vanilla at finish. Bucchal astringency. Better a little below 55 degrees. Oak barrels? — 10 days ago
