Delightful. Create a chicken parm with a twist and some steamed spinach. I needed to decant it and let it breathe for a while. During the aperitivo hora. — 2 months ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner. The 2019 “Roccalini” pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of ripe Morello cherry, raspberry, roses, new leather, dried orange peel, dried green herbs, a touch of anisette and dried gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. IIRC, before Paolo started making wine under his own label, the fruit from Roccalini used to go to Giacosa. Regardless, the quality and character is special which is why it is consistently one of my favorites in all of Barbaresco. Now, if only I had more access to it. Maybe @Lyle Fass can do something about it? Drink now through 2039+. — 7 months ago
Bright, effervescent red. Starts off kind of tasting like wet socks and then smooths and rounds out to dried apricot, green apple, and cinnamon, with a tart finish. Definitely something to worth chillingl! — a year ago

From 3L
Core of red with light brickish edges.
Nose is pretty. Dryish cherries to cherries, strawberries, blackberries flow underneath, raspberries, some fresh rhubarb, notes of cherry Jolly Rancher, red to mid berry cola, some soapy baking powder notes, tobacco, used leather, (might be the glass), soft, mid intensity baking spices, vanilla-in, soft oak shavings, moist clay, limestone, dry top soils, red flowers, red roses & candied violets.
The palate is ripe, juicy; sweet & tart cherries, strawberries, some black berries, dry pomegranate, somewhat stewed/spiced plum, blackberries with circling raspberries, nice mid spice, dry tobacco, leather, grilled meats, soft, mid intensity baking spices, vanilla-in, soft, dry, oak shavings, moist clay, limestone, volcanics, hints of white pepper, dry leaves, dry top soils, red flowers, red roses & candied violets, excellent acidy with a well made, balanced, biggish structure & tension, good length finish that lasts minutes and fall on spice & minerals.

This wine pours a somewhat clear ruby red. It has a nice nose. The fruit is restrained. And after it’s been open for a little bit, the tannins really come through. This is an excellent wine that I got at Costco for $48. I would definitely re-buy it. It went well, although not a perfect match with the seafood linguine I had for my birthday at Mange Bene restaurant. #barolowine #italianwines #piedmontwines #nebbioli #costcowines — 3 months ago
Barolo’s are new territory for us. It was a medium bodied wine with tannins that were not over powering. Easy on the palate and a smooth finish. — 10 months ago
Astringent and out of balance, perhaps an off bottle. Bramble rhubarb and hay with green leaf notes... not typical for Nebbiolo. This wine doesn’t fall into the almost-Barbaresco Langhe wines, nor does it hit the fruit-forward Beaujolais-style Langhe wines of other producers (Elio Altare, etc). The price is right at Costco... I’ll wait for the upcoming 2019. — 5 years ago
Intense and deep. Leather and roasting, spices and heavy clay and chewy tans and everything in between. Drank it over three days with a variety of steak and roasted mushrooms and Italian food and it went well with everything just very broad and deep and brewing. — 2 months ago

You know what they say about cloyers oh wait that’s lawyers, never mindNose: potent. Dark flowers.
Palate: a bit cooked.
Grand cru $80 — 9 months ago
Bold nose of dark red berry, velvet, latex and a strangely seafood-y funk, like oysters maybe, on a medium bodied, DARK red wine, with purple hues present towards the edges. The palate is much more straightforward and juicy, and slightly spicy, with notes like Hawaiian Punch, dark overripe berry, and a finish that tastes a bit like artificial blueberry flavor, with some slight tannins peppered throughout. — 3 years ago

Medium ruby , medium wide garnet rim . Quite open and exuberante , lots of sweet red cherry, raspberry and touch of menthol and sweet spices, hickory . Quite sweet profile. On the palate this has nice spice and menthol hints , sweet red cherry fruit , ripe tannins , but with good grip, quite gritty with good length . Balanced acidity , touch of alcohol noticeable . Overall quite sweetly red fruit focussed , pure and expressive. This is showing quite well , though still young and fruit focused. Probably better in 3-5 years and will continue to show well over the next 10 years or so . — a month ago
