Like the sour mouth watering effect of the wine on the palate. Already my last bottle of the case but this still has years of runway ahead. — 5 months ago

Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend 2002

Lemon yellow , really quite young looking, very fine persistent perlage. Slightly reticent at first and then very pure confit lemon , buttered toast , pastry , seashells , mineral , chalky notes , very much like a Montrachet with bubbles . In the mouth really intense minerality , so precisely balanced with mouth watering acidity and very long on the palate . Ripe but steely citrus fruits , pastry notes and lots of minerality on the palate . This is really young still , and probably needs more time in all honesty , no crime to drink now but will surely only improve over the next 10 years and last a further 10 to 15 . — 9 months ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1945

Tasted blind. Deep purple color. Looks very young, compared to the 45 Margaux next to it. Almost opaque. Notes of black fruit, cracked walnuts, sweet fruit, raspberry and some cedar desk. Super rich in the mouth. Seems young and is firm, but tannins are softened and the mouthfeel is velvet touch. Long finish. It peacocks all night. The walnuts thing leads my guess to Latour, but can this be the 45? Is it a 61 or 82? Could be... I go with it being a 59 given how young it seems. Just an amazing bottle of wine, open for ~9 hours by the time we left, it seemed to effortlessly power along. Thanks Stan! — 2 years ago

Château Rayas

Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2008

With a table full of giants , for many this was the WOTD. Text book Rayas on the nose; strawberry, cherry, spices and kirsch.
This is a wine that makes love to your palate. Teasing and caressing your mouth with harmonious waves of elegant and balanced fruit. A great Rayas in a poor vintage for CDP. However for me the partner in life is the 2005 , which has complexity and concentration that puts that one in the Hall of Fame along with ‘78, ‘90 & ‘95

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2009

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2009 Lynch-Bages is very well defined on the nose, yet powerful with ample fruit to spare: blackberry, wild strawberry, cranberry mixed with cedar and a light mint touch. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and lightly spiced with superb focus. It exerts a gentle grip from start to finish, then delivers an engaging, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. Tasted at the Lynch Bages vertical at the château. Les Preuses Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Decanted for 3 hours. Canary gold color. Bright and fresh. Fruit forward nose. Notes of lemon curd, white peach, sea shells, wet river stone and tan spice. Very luscious in the mouth. More fruit than acidity. This went quickly as the team tonight was thirsty. — 2 years ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend

Medium dark robe, nose of steak tartare and cedar. Very complex and elegant in the mouth, great acidity and balance, licorice, dried flowers, a hint of dry port. Finishes on a beautiful acid note and is such a companion. Truly great bottle. You can barely tell the vintage. — 6 months ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

Dark ruby robe, showing some bricking at the rim. Nose of cedarwood, top soil notes, cassis, asian spices. Oh so good in the mouth, in spite the very tannins of the vintage. Starting to open up, will probably get even better in another 5 years or so, no rush but already very very enjoyable now. Great bottle and we loved it.

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2006

2022/5/13 with zukedon, etc. From a half-bottle, bought on release. Bright yellow-gold. On the nose this has developed that honeyed note which only comes from cold northern Chardonnay with some age. There’s also steel and stone. The palate is very intense - it starts with more honey and perhaps some candied citrus peel, but more chalk and steel quickly take prominence. This is a powerfully mineral, dry, salty, alkaline wine - like most 2006s from all over Burgundy, the acidity feels on the low side (though it’s there at the edges of the mouth), and this isn’t about fruit either (with the main fruit note from the mid palate onwards being bitter citrus oils). Bracing, fascinating. — 2 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1990

Old tawny color. Mostly transparent with clear rims. Great old wine nose. Notes of ripe plum, red fruit, some earth and spice, a little kirsch and some herbs. Silky in the mouth. Great texture. Very Burgundian. Still at a nice peak in terms of where it’s at. This was from a great looking bottle with a high fill. Good stuff. — 2 years ago
