Followed this wine across three days, and I’d say it was an excellent example of Roseneck. Poured out with a mostly bright green-yellow colour, with touches of light golden hue on some angles in the light.

On day 1, it had aromas of flint, sea spray, apples, fresh honey, and a touch of petrol. Palpable minerality on the palate, almost painfully so. Not the weightiest, but it sure had intensity. Notable sparkly acidity.

On day 2, I had an 08’ Schlossberg to compare with and this was clearly the more filigreed of the two. The 09’ Roseneck was lighter, more mineral, and less complex. It felt greener even - perhaps it was picked earlier in light of the warm vintage. Comparison aside, the nose evolved a little from day 1, with the petrol hints disappearing altogether, the honey note becoming more like honey candy instead of fresh honey, and the appearance of white florals. The palate was again sparkly, with a palate-staining minerality.

I felt day 3 was the best showing of the 09’ Roseneck, with the fruit and floral notes taking a back seat, and the salinity just dominating. Notably, it looked fresher than the 08’ Schlossberg on this day. The palate was just all about that sea spray. The palate was wild - tasted a lot like salted limes doused with fresh honey. The finish was super mineral with hints of lime zest and green apples. Just pure energy!

I’ve seen quite a number of tasting notes on CL noting that the 09’ Roseneck’s possibly close to its peak but I’m inclined to believe otherwise. — 2 years ago

Super beautiful and elegant, feminine and delicate yet great concentration. I am not sad about opening this yet it could age. Let it air a bit like 20 min at least and you start getting that concentration of red fruit with the beauty of Italian acidity. N: white flowers. Powders minerals. Lovely. Steinmetz elegance. So intense with air. So dense.

P: bright acidity. Elegant green apples. Coiled density. Long. So crazy dense as it opens. Amazing. Candied lemon peel.

My experience w Becker Riesling is they demand patience, air, & time. As a ‘22 & the lower end of the price spectrum ( for Becker- abt 23$) , this bottling felt as closed as a clam but peeking through were dry notes of salt taffy, hearts of palm, white pith fruits, & a saline nature to the whole affair. Decant the hell out of it or revisit in 3-4 years. — 10 months ago

There are upsides to global warming; this bottle makes an excellent argument for Mosel Cabernet being one of them. Soft, plush palate. Nose is correct and tertiary aromas recall a bordeaux of around 15 years of age. Beautiful fruit & winemaking. Worth seeking out. A lovely surprise. — 5 years ago

Not as big as the ‘90 but a beautiful wine. The nose was very earthy when uncorked. Open after 40 minutes of decanting, cedar & spice emerged with cherry. This is a balanced, full wine that still has plenty of life. I am happy to have several more bottles! — 8 years ago

Nose is herbal and gorgeous with huge minerality. Lovely sugar snap peas, some C.K. Some confectionary aromas and just a beguiling whirlwind of so many non fruit aromas it’s hard to pinpoint them. A feral element as well but is so clean, so pure. It smells like the cleanest nature scene you can imagine. Yes it smells like a Bob Ross painting. Juicy and very complex with just a waterfall washing feeling across the palate. The balance of the fruit, minerals, acid and texture is extraordinary. Such delineation and grace. Initially quiet on the nose from the cold, but quickly opening into limestone, intense minerality, nougat, caramel, apricot skin and ripe stone-fruit flesh. The palate is immaculate: unbelievably elegant, deeply concentrated and pure, with gorgeous integration, superb finesse and a wonderfully resolved texture. Juicy and ripe, but the defining feature is the bitter stone-fruit finish, which gives the wine tremendous tension and keeps all that richness perfectly controlled. Fully mature in its architecture now, seamless and complete, with terrific length. Almost 9.7. — 3 months ago

What a wine. Genius. Brilliant. But that’s 2019. Insane nose of honeysuckle, caramel nougat, spice, mineral, confectionary notes, apricot, peach skin and superb head spinning mineralIty. What a palate. Elegant, spicy, tons of apricot and peach skin, and so juicy and energetic. Pure and sappy. So nimble but also has energy and substance for days. Citrus, marmalade flavors develop after some minutes. Juicy and so clean. Unreal. So pure. Sappy and dense. Balanced and long. This has serious stuffing. What a wine. Perfect ripeness balanced with scintillating minerality and energy. Chewy. Wonderful. After some air one gets lost in the nose and aroma. Dizzying. The best honeyed aromas. Okay my friends. I have finally released my own wine! This rating is for Dr Todd Vineyards cabernet sauvignon from Herron Family Wines. I had to put Papillon in the pic to get this spot. Ive been working on this since 2014!!!!! It is finally ready. Of coarse it is opaque in color. The legs are thick and slow to fall. The bouquet is my favorite blackberry pie fresh out of the oven with a hint of black licorice. The initial palate is exploding with dark fruit: blackberry, black current, dark cherries. The mid palate is exactly what I hoped for, chocolate and spice with a splash of oak! The finish is very long with minimal tannins and moderate dryness. I am very proud if this wine. I want to thank my growers in NAPA. I blended two vines of 100% cabernet , one from Oakville and one from the Silverado trail area near lake Hennessey. We aged it three years in American Oak. I am so proud of my team!!!!! Thank you my Herron Family Wine Crew! This is an awesome cabernet sauvignon. Next is a pinot noir... stay tuned... — 7 years ago
