Tiny Bubbles

Charles Heidsieck

Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

Charles "Champagne Charlie" Heidsieck was one of the first to recognize the importance of the U.S. as a Champagne market. A blend with 40% reserve wines, fruit and floral bouquet, with orange blossom & yeasty notes. Fine bubbles, nice mousse, showing quality. Outstanding rich flavors of apple, pear and biscuit, well balanced, good structure, creamy. Long finish ending with toasty nutty oak & mineral notes. — 3 days ago

La Grande Année Brut Champagne Blend 1996

From magnum, the 1996 Grande Année pours a brilliant pale gold color with a persistent mousse. Initially, the wine showed more oxidative notes but it freshened up considerably with air (in fact, a tiny amount was leftover for the next morning and it remained brilliant, racy even!). On the nose, notes of almond, citrus, honey, chalky minerals and brioche. On the palate, wine is developing with absolutely brilliant acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and zippy. The 1996 vintage is simply amazing. Here we are, 28 years past vintage and this bright and full of life! Granted, it’s a magnum, but still. Drink now with patience or enjoy through 2046+. — 2 months ago

La Grande Dame Brut Champagne Blend 2004

Popped and poured to celebrate a pretty cool personal and professional achievement; enjoyed over a two hour period. This particular bottle has been stored in my cellar since release. The 2004 “La Grande Dame” pours a brilliant yellow color with medium+ viscosity and a persistent mousse of fine bubbles. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of golden raspberry, Meyer lemon, some apple, some brioche and nuts; just a touch oxidative. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. However, I feel compelled to share that this gave me the overall impression of a sort of liquid lemon-raspberry custard croissant with shaved almonds on top. It was awesome. The finish was long and there is some palpable density in this wine. So much so that I think these easily have another 10-15 years in them. That being said, this was yummy and I wouldn’t hesitate to enjoy now. — a month ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Rosé 2008

#AgedWineTuesday

Orange in color, very pretty and unique.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and medium sized bubbles.

Dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel.

Showing green apples, light grapefruits, yeast, light raspberries, citrus, limes, light earth, minerals and herbs.

This 16 year old is showing nice complexity at this point, and will continue to age nicely the next 10 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime.

Dom Perignon is not my favorite Champagne, but this one is really delicious. I got to call it when I see it.

Wine Spectator 97 points. Robert Parker 97 points.

Elegant and robust. I just love this vintage for Dom Perignon.

A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$500.

Cuvée Rosé Brut Champagne

To me L-P is a reference point for NV rose.
Ripe yet refreshing, persistent fine bubbles, vibrant palate with great fruit intensity and subtle minerality, creamy and airy texture, clean finish. Just a sense of overall balance.
