Les Maltôtes Ipp13 Chardonnay Tressallier 2018

First sip is crazy. Totally unique.

Palate is intense. Fresh. Almost painfully fresh and tart in a good way. Think a great vintage of willi Schaefer how it gets that intense Green apple jolly rancher thing. Except this is Chardonnay and tressalier. Yes. I know this note is a bit imprecise but it’s not like I have a lot of experience with tressalier.

Has this stunning controlled density. Blind I might guess aged very good Grand cru Chablis. Shows what I know.

Man. This is very good.

Nose is lightly floral. Sorta closed but the little you get is gorgeous. If the nose comes around this is world class wine.

As this opens you get almost this elegant marsanniness. Almost mountain Marsanne. Rich and lightly floral.

An hour in this is insane. The density, complexity and elegance of grand cru burgundy. Spectacular.

Makes me wonder how many other random areas can make elite wines.

So good

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

Les Saint-Jacques Rully Chardonnay 2018

2021/4. I feel like de Villaine’s Chardonnays have a bit more depth and savor than they did a decade ago - and they were certainly good then. This was lovely, with lots of fresh fruit and acidity but some sneaky stone, butter and hazelnut lurking. — 5 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2018

Black raspberry, creme de cassis, creme de violet, hot iron, ink, dried beef, woodsmoke, laurel, pine forest, ash, pastille, blood, granite. Thick, dense with tannins that show the heat of the growing season. Remarkably balanced and even keeled given the warmth, not losing the savory and meaty nature Gonon always carries. The granite is biting and persistent throughout the palate, balancing all that chewy fruit. — 14 days ago

Nose is dynamite. Meyer lemon. Discreet oak. Floral, wet stones, wet earth, peaches? Superb delineation on the nose between, earth, mineral, flowers and fruit. As it opens more lime pith, more slate? Almost Mosel like. Wow, acid, concentration off the charts. Really young, but so clean, so pure and so long. Also initially closed. What density and what amazing material. Really nice texture and again, this is so mineral driven it’s crazy. Such a wealth of material here.

As it airs some spice develops. This seems really backwards and needs time but also is so so fine. Could be Chassagne. Explosive mineral finish and so earthy. This is as old school as St. Aubin gets. Saline, rocky and earthy. But finish is clipped as a function of its youth but man is this promising.

Needs decanting or time in the glass to fully express itself. At first pour it was all about black olives and chewiness and then over time the ripe black plums and cherries appeared and things mellowed out in a good way. #bordeaux #claret #stestephe #leftbank #leftbankbordeaux — a day ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2017

For an old world Syrah, this is showing significant fruit: cranberry, black currant, and blackberry. Background aromas, however, shine through with smoked minerals, black pepper, leather, and vanilla.
I love the juicy, lengthy, peppery finish on this wine.
