As a friend accurately noted: color of dehydrated urine sample, but man did it smell & taste great! These are amongst the oldest vines in Mosel and it showed: stunning depth & complexity here ranging from a parade of yellow fruit: mandarin orange, cling peaches, apricot, quince all drenched in clover honey to slat-y minerals, allspice, cinnamon, grandma’s dusty attic and basement cellar & marzipan. No petrol here, just a hedonistic journey. Silky & sexy, round, still w/acidic zip and a long luscious finish. — 2 days ago
Entry-level, uncomplicated Riesling by Keller-alumn Sina Mertz, from vineyards on porphyry soils in the small village of Eckelsheim in Hügelland, within the somewhat maligned Rheinhessen wine region. Medium intensity nose with citrus (lime, lemon zest) and tropical fruit aromas, minerals (chalk) and floral notes. Fresh, citrus (lime) flavors, pleasant acidity. — 8 days ago
Nose is some baked apple, slate, minerals and a nice layered aspect. Confectionary and really nice. Lovely. Palate is sweet, tense and compact. Good freshness. Very pure. Nice icing on cake texture. Almost a 9.1. Again, tho, seems boring. Does the job type of wine. Like a great long snapper. — 8 days ago
So good. Nose of citrus pith, tree bark, deep minerality. Floral so aromatic. Amazingly complex. Just stunning. Kumquat. Keeps opening and opening. Concentrated, textured and super elegant. So fine and refined. Long. Amazingly pure. So delineated and fine. Superb blend of citrus fruits and complex minerality. Really great freshness and piquant acidity. Terrific depth and length. Has great crystalline structure. Seems the 17’s are opening once again. — 8 days ago
Nose has dried apricots, very over-ripe nectarine, lemon peel, crushed slate, peach pit and wet vinyl curtain.
Palate has orange zest, ripe peach, ripe nectarine, nectarine skin, warmed lemon, green apple peel, fresh green herbal notes but with a light sweetness. Amazing wine, great acidity with very extended finish; Wow!
Decanted 6H. Expect this to drink amazingly 2025-2035+.
6D Update: Nose has honey drizzle over ripe apricot. Palate has dried orange peel, ripe peach, dried peach, green herbal note persists but coupled with dried orange. — 7 days ago
Beautiful ripe notes of peach, apricot, pineapple. Dry, but not excruciating so... some nice ripe fruit sweetness that works with food. Turkish kabobs and rice pilaf with chicken, lamb, beef, and chicken. Long, juicy finish. I find most rieslings too sweet, but this was really balanced and 13.5 ABV. — 7 days ago
Pop and pour. On thr nose: soft petrol, peach, grapefruit, herbs, soft leesy notes. On the palate: good acidity, grapefruit, steely notes, peach, ok density, but a touch thin and erring on the side of shrill on the mid. This fell off a bit quickly...was hoping for more length. Still, for my experience, almost worth it for the nose alone, and very, very good. — 3 days ago
A bit less than a year since my last btl. On the nose: peach, soft petrol and leesy notes, a touch of lemon-inflected VA. On the palate: fantastic density, but the acidity is a touch softer than I would like at first..this combines to form a creamy mid with soft lemon, chives with cream. and wet stone, acidity is more perceptible near the end with soft tang and peppery notes. Excellent length. Yum. — 2 days ago
Just a sick wine. What a nose. Confectionary green apple. Tree bark. Slate. So complex and alluring. Some light spice and such intense minerality. Some gorgeous vulcanized rubber, insane apple juice, like God’s apple juice. Palate is a dream. Sappy, complex and concentrated and the key is these are more akin to the Spatlese of 25-35 years ago than today’s sugar bombs. It finished dry and almost with some foie gras. Tingling and electric acids and such a brilliant, complex crescendo of a finish. And it finishes DRY. But it’s so obviously a Spatlese. Hot Tub Spatlese Time Machine. Amazingly clean wine. Palate is 2/3 minerals and 1/3 fruit. The balance is superb. The whole thing is just beautiful.
Wow acid and structure after many hours open and length increases. So so good. What a pure, slapping WSS. Genius. — 11 days ago
