Wow. This stopped me in my tracks. Nose of chestnut, spice, tar, roses, no fruit. So deep. But this is just opened and I know this is gonna be mind bending in an hour or three. The florals are so crazy and man o man the beautiful high end tobacco and endless flowers is something to behold! Wow! So much spice and old library book with hints of freshly cleaned and a once used chimney and a freshly burned out fire. This nose is layered and so deep and keeps revealing itself. 9.7 on the nose. Palate is brilliant. Hints of opulence abound but this has daggers and angles for days with ridiculous freshness and finesse. Just incredible. Massive concentration and huge minerality. Velvety and substantial tannins and very long. Like one sip is a 3 minute experience. Explosive like nothing else. This is regal and the best Barbaresco I’ve had in years. What energy and freshness on the palate. No hard edges. Complex, deep and so concentrated. This has some slight brambly cherry fruit but if this is like the Primanebbia this will take 3 hours or longer for the fruit to be truly expressive. Long. Just so damn impressive.
Now after air this is just insane. This airiness one associated with whites wines. Palate has now insane mega fruit that is so juicy, so dense and so impressive you cannot believe all the tannin from the first hour has been transformed into gorgeous cherry fruit with insanely detailed silky tannins. Wow. So ethereal. 9.7 to 9.8. — 10 days ago

First bottle opened out of a 6-pack bought years ago in the presentation case. Impressive. Wine gets dissed a bit, bit it’s super solid winemaking here. — 3 months ago
Our new superstar. This is just incredibly great. Nose is all the classics. Tar, leather, old bookcase, some bruised mid season cherries, old book pages, Cuban tobacco. Mint, menthol, so so aromatic. It just takes over your nose. Palate is fresh fresh fresh. So clean, bursting with just the most incredible minerality. There’s some fruit but not much and that’s ok by me. The mouthfeel is so silky and textured. Just incredible. A hint of rustic and some silky yet substantial tannins. Amazingly long finish.
After 2-3 hours this is crazy. Amazing depth of fruit and concentration. So complex. Just insane.

oddero's 1996 "rocche dei rivera di castiglione" falletto (today: mga "scarrone") did a fantastic job. an ultra classic and perfectly mature barolo. it does not reach the same heights as the 1996 "vigna rionda", "bussia-mondoca" or "rocche di castiglione" and it needed some time in decanter to open up. lots of dried flowers and berries, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite and road tar. the tannic backbone is very good and brings structure. the saturating minerals and acdity keep the wine very alive in the palate and in a nice finish. — 2 months ago
Surprisingly good for the vintage. A pretty wine, but with some steel in the spine. Nice. — 3 months ago
