Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Black fruits with wood, earth and chocolate notes on the nose.

Full-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, chocolates, peppercorn, coffee, earth and black tea.

Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Grenache based blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Rich and concentrated. Showing good structure, but still very young, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Complex and well balanced, tangy and engaging. The high alcohol is not too noticeable. Needs time to open up properly, so be patient.

A good quality wine that will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of mostly Grenache, with all 13 grape varieties allowed in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from 80 year old vines. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

I have many tasting notes for Beaucastel on Delectable dating back nearly 10 years ago (504 weeks). Always has been a favourite and I had the pleasure of having a guided tasting with my wife and 2 children some years ago at the winery. This wine from the warm 2015 vintage had plenty of ripe black fruits like Blackberry and plum - also herbs and pepper. This Cuvée used all 13 permitted varietals. This was the first of 3 bottles. Next in a year or two. I actually slightly preferred the 2016 Clape Renaissance had over the weekend. I realise the Clape is northern Rhone but thought I would mention it. — 2 days ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed alongside Texas BBQ on the plane home. The 2005 “Hommage a Jacques Perrin” pours a deep purple with a ruby rim; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with mostly dark fruits: mixed brambles, black cherry, animale, star anise and black pepper, garrigue and stony earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This continues to be ever so dense but paired admirably with the BBQ. A grower champagne I always enjoy, but I’ve not had their special club offering with this much age before. I’ve been missing out! A stunner!

This may be an example of hitting lightening in a bottle, but this caught me (and others I was with) totally off-guard at how youthful it was…and more importantly, how unbelievably good it was. Channeling an oxidative flair at this point in its evolution, this scratched the itch for creamy, powerful, golden champagne. Autolysis on full display (in the best way) with lemon scone, honey roasted cashews, spiced pears aromatically. Honeyed graham crackers, lemon cream, Biscotti cookie, kiss of ginger and plenty of chalky limestone grit toward the finish (but the sweet autolysis lengthens it out beautifully). For me, this tasted like this was the exact right day to catch this wine at peak.
