Brut Premier Champagne Blend

Happy International Champagne Day! In celebration of the day i have opened the Louis Roederer Brut Premier NV Champagne. A beautifully fun expression of the Louis Roederer estate blended Champagne. A blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. 55% Estate Vineyards 16% Fermented and matured in oak 30% Malolactic.

On the nose I get pungent notes, lemon cream, brioche, green apple, white flowers, yeasty bread and smokey notes.

On the palate there is lemon curd, white peach, tart citrus notes, toast, currant and a minerality.

This Champagne is medium to full bodied with a creamy rich texture and medium + acidity that moves seamlessly into a long crisp citrus mineral finish. I hope everyone is having a wonderful International Champagne Day and are enjoying something beautiful. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂

Le Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1990

Tasted blind. Canary gold color. Great viscosity. Notes of apples, lemon, vanilla, cardamom and some nuttiness. Some power and heat in the mouth. Guessed 90 Ramonet Batard. Some iodine notes developed, and this wine powered up over the afternoon. Great juice. — 17 days ago

Alfio Moriconi Selection Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2013

Easy finish. Sipping side-by-side with a Boen Pinot Noir blend from California, and we love the old world earthiness. It starts spicy and ends mossy in the best way. — a month ago

Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Not bad, but not super exciting either. On the nose: wild strawberry, soft stems, a touch of pyrazine, charcoal. On the palate: excellent acidity, black cherry, good density, Soft tannin on the clean finish. Solid. — 4 days ago

Domaine Gagey Les Boudots Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2005

🏅 Rating 92/100 (4,2⭐)

🍷Firm and full-bodied wine. Jammy sweet red strawberries. Rich on the palate with good presence of fruit. LJ style is showing with noticeable oak. Red grapefruit on the back of the palate and a long finish. This wine is shining at the moment. Deep and concentrated with perfect balance between the big robust and the elegant styles. Altogether justifies its 1er cru status. ⁣

5-star vintage of 2005 requires lots of patience for many top Burgundy, but this one has already opened its drinking window.⁣

📍Les Boudots covers 6.3 ha and sits on the East facing mid-slope in the Northern part of NSG and borders famous Vosne 1er Cru of Malconsorts. The soil is brown limestone and marl. ⁣

This wine is fermented in vats for 3-4 weeks and then aged 15 months in oak prior to bottling.⁣

Louis Jadot hold a long term contract over a parcel of half a hectare owned by the Gagey family. Domaine Gagey has belonged to André Gagey’s family for generations and have had a close association with Louis Jadot for many years.⁣

Clos de Malte Santenay Chardonnay 2011

Nose has oxidized yellow apple slice, dried papaya, candied pineapple, hay bale, cold candle wax, oak shavings and buttercream.

Palate has dried pineapple, dehydrated lemon, pineapple cake, limestone sand with a very long finish.

Lightest color of yellow in the Gabriel Glas, by far the least visually oxidized version of this wine of all prior. Fresh as a Spring day!

Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend

Unforgettable and held up like a champ. Ripe golden apple, macadamia nuts and brioche. Does it deserve 100 points ...you bet. Whether it’s the bottle age or the vintage this was one of the more memorable bottles of Cristal I’ve ever had @dempsysteakhouse — 3 days ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

J.L. Chave Sélection Hermitage Blanche Marsanne Roussanne 2012

My contribution for a wine theme of “rosé and non-Chardonnay whites.” I initially thought this would be one of the bigger wines on the table (expecting a bunch of SauvBlancs and light bodied rosés, only for a 2008 SQN The Pontiff to claim that title), and while it eventually fleshed out, it took a while.

This negociant bottling of Chave's Hermitage blanc is made from 100% Marsanne from vine age between 50-60 years. This wine comes mainly from the lieu-dit called Maison Blanche which sits atop the hill of Hermitage.

I decanted this about 2hrs, then put it back in bottle to follow over the next 2-3hrs and it really hit stride towards the end. It poured a deep golden color, as expected. Roasted macadamia nuts and herb crusted yellow fruits on the nose. At first, it was like fine grained bitter honey, banana peel, and melon on the palate and a bit lighter than expected. It gained the traditional waxy component the longer it was open, as well as gained viscosity. The finish rounded out to show a mix of herbs, mineral, along some guava and papaya, and a dose of ginger. I think this is still young, and will be fun to follow over the next few years.
