Serious cellar potential, and that is probably where this one belongs for awhile. Very primary, dense, juicy and structured. Crunchy wild berries, gravelly mineral character and slightly herbaceous. This bottling needs more time than even the grand reserve Juliénas because of its much shorter elevage and early release time. It will surely reward, but showing some mutedness now.
*Day 3* Already considerably more rewarding. The tannin structure is muscular but supple, and there is more mid palate density and clarity. Showing some dried fruit aromas at this stage, but not to the point of feeling tired. I’m more confident that this will drink well in 2021 or perhaps 2020. — 4 days ago
Pretty and complex, a morphing witch’s brew of a wine. Time has really drawn everything into focus here, with aromas of sweet berry fruits, pine needles, my camphor wood armoire, and Clement Street Chinese medicinal herb&mushroom shops. Silky and resolved, lush in texture and fruit while still being quite lithe in body. A stunner, and I’m lucky to have scooped up several more. Enjoyed with crispy fried chicken cutlets, roasted root veggies and wild rice. — 25 days ago
— 6 days ago
Color of saturated gold, beautiful. Nose of nutty, buttery flavors, spice, sprite, dense flowering note like Riesling, some mineral, and some ripe pineapple and banana. Taste is mouthful with zesty tinkling flavors leading the way, spicy, and less sweet than suggested by nose. Second sips has more sweetness from honey, same spice, and more zesty rind. Aftertaste is dominated by spicy taste from alcohol and a bit short of complexity. I do feel the nose alone earns her a nice rating. — 9 days ago
Very enjoyable super crisp Riesling with electric acidity and a touch of sweetness. Paired perfectly with my spicy tofu veggie dinner. — 3 months ago
