Dry River

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2015

Brief notes. Barb said sour cherry. My initial impressions - dried herbs, dried red cherry and black plum. Quite a big Pinot Noir. One could say a Shiraz drinkers Pinot, but it’s better than that and gives the wrong connotation. Have my next one in late 2025. As I have said in prior notes it lacks nuance. — 5 months ago

Paumanok

Dry North Fork of Long Island Chenin Blanc 2023

Really nice. Good structure, a lot of acidity, honey, melon, some tropical characteristics, as it warms I like it more. Some complexity comes out. Stone fruit. Impressed — 5 days ago

Ata Rangi

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2017

Terrific NZ Pinot, nice clean lines of fruit and acidity and has silky smooth tannins.
This has matured nicely since my last bottle three years ago.
Have another one which I’ll try at 10 years.

Larose Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

Palmer Emmitt
9.4

Wow. A relic from my trip to Waiheke in ‘08, it’s holding up remarkably well. Spot on Bordeaux-like character with hints of bell pepper and graphite to go along with seamless tannin and racy acidity. The fruit character is still bright and sings with cranberry, cherry and red cassis in perfect harmony with the structure of the wine. Glad I waited and glad I have another bottle! — 4 months ago

Dark fruit, dirt, leather, slight bitterness, medium tannins — a month ago

Te Mata Estate

Bullnose Hawkes Bay Syrah 2019

New world Syrah is just so different from the Rhône. Deeper, darker, denser, though still mid weight and gentle. Much lighter smoke characteristics, more cassis, plum, dark berries. Some green bell pepper too. Smooth, very mild hint of the oak. Integrated soft tannins. Nice long finish. — a month ago
