Cornas Syrah 2015

Quite fruit driven. Will go for another 5 years or more. Still very tannic, hint of brett blueberry, a little to rich for me but seriously great stuff. Minty. — 13 days ago

La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah 1985

Tasted blind. By now we’re starting to get a bit polluted from all the previous wines. This is dark tawny in color with great fruit, black cherry, spice, dark earth and some wood. Comes across as young and not yielding much. With air the wine gets more rich and the texture of the juice is amazing. This explodes with power, fruit and an amazing finish. Nobody guessed Syrah or Rhone. I threw out an 82 Mouton guess. Sometimes a guess is rated as “at least you got the country right”… We were all impressed with how good this was. It was the WOTD for many. — 23 days ago

Grenouilles Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2005

🏅 Rating 90/100 (4,0⭐)

Yellow gold. Buttery. Shows its age with more tertiary aromas of mushrooms. Oily texture. Bitter citrus zest and long finish. No oak wine making preserves the purity of the wine with aging. It won't develop more and we are lucky to meet it at the stage before it starts declining.

Comes from the smallest Chablis Grand Cru. Domaine's plot is located at the top of the slope. Vines were planted in 1950-80. SW exposure, with plenty of sunshine and gentle breezes, tempered by the Serein river. Fairly gentle slope. Le Chablisienne cooperative owns over 75% of the climat.

Winemaking is with indigenous yeasts, in temperature-controlled vats. Wines never see oak, steel only. Maturation 18mo.

Sole e Roccia Carema Nebbiolo 2017

Nose has perfectly ripe cherries, white pepper, dehydrated strawberry, dry tobacco, old dusty oak firewood and anise spice notes.

Palate has sweet cherry, licorice, dried tart cherries, dried strawberries, great acid/fruit tension, medium tannins with a fantastic never-ending finish. What a great example of the ultimate mountain Nebbiolo!

Second vintage produced, with 2016 being the first release. 1250 bottles produced.

Cork pulled for slow oxidation 8H, then decanted 3H, more bottle time appreciated. 2027-32+

Wonderfully paired to a homemade Bolognese over Pappardelle.

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2009

This is the first bottle that I have opened from this vintage. It was decanted for a couple of hours. Although it drank really well, it is just a baby. It should drink well for the next 30 years. — 16 days ago

Vaudésir Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2016

🏅 Rating 93/100 (4,3⭐)

Intense color with greenish hue. Fragrant aromatic, concentrated, sea salinity. Floral, almonds. Medium body. Unmistakably demonstrates the Grand Cru level which is accessible now and has immense potential for years ahead. Fully justifies the nobility of Vaudesir which often considered on par or the runner up to Le Clos.

Fairly steep slopes of Vaudesir with NW exposure provide cool temperatures and sunlight in the evening. Vines of Louis Michel parcels were planted in 1950-70s.

Winemaking with indigenous yeasts, spontaneous malo and matured for at least 18 months. Wines never see oak, stainless steel tanks only.

Château d'Ampuis Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2014

This wine really opened up after being decanted for a couple of hours. Some thought it needed more time but I thought it was fantastic with grilled lamb with rosemary and roasted garlic as well as a red wine reduction sauce. Don’t be in a hurry to drink this wine it has a lot of life. — 16 days ago

La Pialade de Rayas Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 2014

One of the most memorable wines ever. First thing I noticed was the color, very pale garnet. Spice and wet dirt on the nose, very little fruit. The palate was amazing: rusted iron and sandalwood. Each sip was more and more compelling. A wine that you want to drink slowly and to savor. Only 1 bottle, unfortunately. — 12 days ago
