Château Du Grand Soussans

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Quite deep ruby with a relatively thin ruby garnet rim . Really aromatic , with rose , truffle , sweet cherries , blackberries , fresh cut herbs and some earthy undertones . After a while some dry spices. On the palate this is dense but incredibly well poised and balanced with fresh acidity , a mix of summer fruits , herbal tinges . Suave polished but quite noticeable tannins , this very long detailed and precise with wonderful refreshing acidity. Chalky mineral finish . Just gets better and better in the glass , a real crescendo becoming more mineral and precise , but maintaining all those cherry and summer fruits. Lovely now , but surely will improve further over the next 5 -10 years , and will last well a further 10 . The pinnacle of red burgundy in this challenging vintage? In all difficult to imagine a better 2013 , it has pretty much everything , a simply spectacular showing . At Auberge de l’ill in Illhaeusen , paired to perfection with a ‘simple’ roast Bresse chicken and a rich truffle sauce . Quite simply a match made in heaven . — a day ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

One of the Greatest Latour s of all time. Could easily go another 60 years. Opened to earthy musky dark fruit but as the evening progressed the flavor became so bold with cherry plum blackberry leather and tobacco. One of my favorites! — 15 days ago

1hr+ decant. Medium red color with burnt edges. Flowers and cow shit dominate the nose. Lovely texture with a ton of terroir and character on the palate. Cigar box, cedar, and pencil lead throughout. Medium plus finish. Always a fav! — 8 days ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

Double decant and pour(some fine/cloudy sediment).  A striking still dark magenta color with bricking.   On the nose:  subtle perfumed notes of dark fruit, pencil shavings, smoked meat, worn leather, tobacco leaf, eucalyptus.  Taste:  silky, balanced wine with some dried dark fruit, currants, earth, asian spice, dried herbs, and a graphite/dried cherry/coffee ground medium plus finish...lacks some depth and some still there sharp tannins gonna knock the score down.  — a day ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Valmur Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 1990

Cork broke into two pieces, but got the bottom 1/3 carefully using a standard French waiter, no cork was left in the bottle. Color looks quite youthful for a 36-year-old Grand Cru Chablis, initially some SO2/matchstick aromas, but they blew off quickly. Followed by lemon, mineral, flavors are similar, perfect, lively acidity, great persistence and length, for Chablis I suppose 1990 was a warmer vintage (13.5% ABV), but this bottle is amazing and almost perfect, WOW!!’ — 22 days ago

No number rating but maybe that’s because a wine like this transcends any attempt to reduce it to a number!

@Tom Casagrande, I guess the app didn’t agree with the rating I gave it when I posted — I fixed it. Annoyed

The anxiety of letting this bottle rest that long would have killed me long ago! But damn what a payout!

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1988

1988 vintage. Feminine-styled. Ran into some resistance back in the day with the (re-) emergence of this Château and the massive 85/86 and 89/90 efforts. Eff all that. The 1989 AND 1990 vintages probs the best this Château has ever realized. The 1988 slid in then and performed delicate magick. That cocoa powder and blueberry combo still coming forth with undeniable impressions. Whereas those four “bigger” vintages rocked harder, all four have had more noticeable drop off. This 1988 just doing its best La Mission Haut-Brion/Haut-Brion impression and pulling it off. No rush to crush. 5.13.26. — 23 days ago

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2015

First sentence is a tester. Now the full note. We don’t often have Grand Cru Burgundy but we had roast duck legs on Mother’s Day. An intensity to the nose - Sous Bois/Compost heap with savoury red fruits - smoky with a hint of pepper. Many of the experts are saying a high influence of stems in the ferment is apparent and I totally agree. Interestingly Richard Hemming MW gave the wine 19.5/20 and said “This is what all the Burgundy fuss is all about.” Continuing to evaluate - this wine has a beautiful nose (very Morey one taster said). In summary a magnificent wine with great persistence. One of the 1001 Wines. Clos des Lambrays can trace its history back to the 14th century. — a month ago
