Castello Di Ama

Castello di Ama

Vigneto San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

See previous Note. Old plummie, red cherry notes. Barb said dusty and pine needles. A cooler vintage. I said red cherries and freshly tilled loam. As Galloni said “In 2010 Ama did not bottle their single vineyard selections. All the best fruit went here.” Tasting more the quality of a Brunello than a Chianti Classico. No. 6 in Wine Spectators Top 100 for 2015. — 22 days ago

In 2015, the WS Top 100 meant something. To look at it the last few years it is puzzling. I recently read their website for the criteria they use to come up with their top 100 and all I could do after reading the criteria and seeing their 2024 selections is scratch my head.

@Bob McDonald first vintage of Gran Selezione ever, definitely a good start with the 2010. Great pull!

Castello dei Rampolla

Sammarco Toscana SuperTuscan Blend 2004

One of the better bottles of this I’ve had, especially with a bit of air. Nice secondary faded red fruit with good acid. Quite nice with turkey and a variety of sides. — 23 days ago

Marchesi Antinori

Castello della Sala Bramìto Umbria Chardonnay 2023

Located in the heart of Umbria, pale lemon color with aromas of stone fruit, citrus and honey floral notes. On the palate flavors of apple, pear and peach with citrus and nutty notes. Good acidity, balance and structure, medium+ finish ending with salty mineral character. Nice! — 7 days ago

Peay Vineyards

Ama Estate Pinot Noir

Pale ruby in color. Aromas of cherry, smoke, and spices. On the palate, it’s fruit-forward with well-balanced acidity and tannins. The higher ABV stands out for a Pinot Noir. Drinking well now despite its young vintage. — 2 months ago

Castello di Neive

Castello dei Rampolla

Vigna d'Alceo Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot Blend 2009

Medium ruby color with slightly garnet rim. Dark berry and plum on the nose. Medium acid, tannins are softened but still present. It benefited from decanting. Tastes like dark fruit, dark chocolate, graphite, reminded me of some Bordeaux bottles. — 23 days ago

Castello di Bossi

Castello di Bolgheri

Bolgheri Superiore SuperTuscan Blend 2020

Super smooth, good fruit, nice balance. Only criticism would be it needs a bit more structure this young. But that could be the restaurant’s fault - the steak was too salty. — 2 months ago
