Côte Du Danube

Domaine Dujac

Morey Saint Denis Pinot Noir 2018

Splash decanted directly prior to service, the 2018 Morey Saint Denis pours a deep ruby with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is youthful with powerful notes of ripe and tart red fruits: red cherries, red brambles, red flowers, some herbs and a healthy dollop of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and luxurious. A fairly flashy wine and, to my palate, the oak is showing prominently right now. Not out of balance, but close. The alcohol is up there…but it is pretty well disguised. Not wimpy, that’s for sure. While this is certainly full of energy and character right now, I think this wine would enjoy some time in the cellar to show even better. Drink from 2028 through 2043. — 2 days ago

Brune et Blonde de Guigal Côte-Rotie Syrah 2016

Very integrated, good structure, at first, 20 min after opening got more blackberry and dark fruits. As it opened up there was more peppery, smoky Syrah. Didn’t get the licorice that I commented on previously. Cassis on the finish. Long finish. But it’s 2+ years since the last bottle of this vintage. Very good, complete, enjoyably wine. — 22 days ago

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Meursault Chardonnay 2015

Man Coche just puts everyone else to shame. 2015 is just incredible, belying the warmth of the vintage with electric energy, racy acids and a texture that sets it apart, wrapping around the palate with tremendous density and depth to its layers. I want to smell its struck match-lemon custard bouquet all day. Still my favorite white wines along with Raveneau. — 17 days ago

Remarkable. Juicy and so dense but my goodness this is so elegant. It’s amazing how light on its feet the wine is for such a big boy. Genius. — 15 days ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1997

Spectacular. Ethereal nose of strawberry and faint notes of cured meats. 1,000 layers after it came to temp, needed a short decant. This has turned towards Burg with a lightness and power. Silky smooth. Thanks, Aaron. 🙏🏼 — 25 days ago

Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus Grèves Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Brief notes. Showed better than the 2013 vintage we had in December 2021. Quite rich, sweet and fruit driven as well as spicy notes. Tasting more new world in this warm vintage. A good wine without being great. Have the last one in a couple of years ie 2026. — a month ago
