Real pleasure. Started out surprisingly soft and elegant and about 1 hour in it just jumped the river and became a true grippy left bank Bordeaux. I had to check our claim that Vilafonté Bordeaux series m and c can stand shoulder to shoulder with the big rollers of Bordeaux. They sure do! Cloudy in the glass, shy nose, but explodes on the palate. Rich, amazing weight and complexity. Light in alcohol, but heavy flavors of ripe pear, apple, melon, fig. Nice fruit/acid balance but the wine is shocking in its power. I need to buy more of this Pinot Bianco/Greco do Tufo blend. Lots more appeal than Sauv Blanc or Chard. 😇 I looked up to the sky & the Purple Angel came down upon me filling my glass with light blocking purple ruby rain that oozed aromas of black & blue berries w/ thick chocolate, vanilla, dates, heavenly minerals & smokey oak - “drink this godly juice” she said in a booming voice🍷

I dared embrace the heavenly nectar & succumbed to a full on palate explosion of ripe dark concentrated blackcurrant/berry bathed in raspberry cocoa and minerals💥

My mouth was left open in awe as my purple stained teeth yielded to the long silky fruit loaded intense finish & I myself turned into a naughty purple devil - spank me angel, spank me 😈

One of my favourite wines! Two thirds of the grapes were picked early and put through carbonic maceration, leaving the rest to dry on the vines for a bit. Then it was aged in some new and old French oak barrels for a bit, and then it was bottled and sold. The nose is luscious and fruity, with a combination of dark and red fruit. Traces of herbs, such at nettle and mint add some beautiful green tones, while in the depths of the wine is the deep, booming bass of barbecuing meat. This wine has everything. Moderate acidity for length, which also balances the high alcohol. The oak really shines on the palate. Fuck yes. — 8 years ago

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Étain is a powerful, muscular wine that speaks with booming authority. Blackberry, gravel, chocolate, spice and lavender are some of the many aromas and flavors that saturate the palate. Far from an easygoing 2018, the M. Étain is a brooding Cabernet that needs time in bottle to allow the formidable tannins to soften. It remains one of the most distinctive wines made in Nape Valley. Dollops of Merlot and Malbec from the back of the property round out the blend. There are 2,400 cases of the 2018, a large production within the context of Napa Valley for a wine of this level. Heavy floral notes with lavender and violet, carnation, cherry blossom and red rose, booming amid dried black cherry espresso and cocoa, though distinctly separate. Dark toasted sesame, rye bread, and crumbled earth. Bright cherry palate turns dusty in all the right ways, leaning into cocoa nib and espresso oils. Lovely and dry with dried cran and red currant but exhibits miles of lingering blood orange citrus and crystalline cherry. Gorgeous. Eternally evolving and all of it amazing. The concrete egg has made something ethereal that also shows a mysterious depth. Great range.
