Tenuta di Trecciano

Chianti Colli Senesi Sangiovese Blend 2020

DOCG #chianti at the sub $20 price point can be all over the map in terms of quality. I knew I hit the jackpot on first sniff and sip of this producer. Earthy cherry, dark fruit on nose, lovely balance on palate; distinctive #sangiovese earthy-soft spice on finish, quite nicely knit Chianti with excellent QPR for ~$15 at #totalwine . — a year ago

Fattoria Poggerino

Nuovo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2016

Heavy floral notes with lavender and violet, carnation, cherry blossom and red rose, booming amid dried black cherry espresso and cocoa, though distinctly separate. Dark toasted sesame, rye bread, and crumbled earth. Bright cherry palate turns dusty in all the right ways, leaning into cocoa nib and espresso oils. Lovely and dry with dried cran and red currant but exhibits miles of lingering blood orange citrus and crystalline cherry. Gorgeous. Eternally evolving and all of it amazing. The concrete egg has made something ethereal that also shows a mysterious depth. Great range.

Riserva Chianti Sangiovese Blend 2018

Medium ruby in color. The nose shows cherries, red currents, and violets. This wine is dry with medium tannins and medium-light bodied. This wine is great with lasagna. 8.5 out of 10.

Rocca di Montegrossi

Vigneto Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2009

The 2009 Rocca di Montegrossi San Marcellino is showing significantly more depth, yet also freshness than the last time I tasted it, with balsamic tinged black cherry, giving way to Asian spice, wild herbs, hints of animal musk and brown sauce (think sauerbraten).  Velvety textures flood the palate, showing notable savoriness, as mineral-infused dark red fruits are energized by vibrant acidity with a hint of orange citrus that pops right toward the close. The finish is long, showing adolescent tannins, which provide just enough tension, as it tapers off to notes of roasted plum, hints of tobacco and sage.  It does show a bit more advanced than I’d expect, but this is a far superior bottle over the last one I tasted.  Bravo. #chianticlassic #chianti #tuscanwine #italy — 4 years ago

And this...is a wine that MUST be decanted. #decantthis I finally opened it and 48 hours later it is twice as expressive and balanced and smooth. #chianti #chiantiriserva #italy — 3 years ago

So soft. The tannins are fine grained and quite supple. Aromas of black fruit, paprika and dark chocolate. #chianti #chianticlassico #granselezione — 4 years ago

Rocca delle Macìe

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

“Before decanting- or even much of a breathe- the ‘15 Rocca Delle Macie, Chianti Classico Riserva floats right off the glass as if it knew it’d be opened soon. seriously - this is one of the more lush and powerfully expressive Chianti’s I’ve experienced. While blackberries and hints of cherry find their way to the nose- there’s something else there that, even after thirty minutes studying my little book of aromas- I cannot pinpoint! It’s an earthy-yet youthful, “sandstone-y” type of aroma. Which I’m sure doesn’t exist but, whatever- that’s what I got. And very, very much am digging. There is a notable roundness to this wine- both in the nose as well as on the palate. The finish is long and kind of “unwinding” other flavors I missed along the journey of the swig. For its price in particular, I would even invite staunch fans of Brunello Di Montalcino to have a go at this beautifully-expressive & precocious Chianti Classico Riserva from Rocca delle Macie. #PublicofRidgewood, #PublicofPrinceton, #chianti — 4 years ago
