Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2014

Lighter-bodied, especially considering it’s a #sangiovese #merlot #cabernetsauvignon blend. Somewhat reserved cassis aroma; classic Tuscan flavors: earthy wild cherry, slight pepper yet more fruit-forward with chewy tannins. I’d like more depth and bracing acidity but hard to argue with the $9 price at Costco. ***2 days later and the wine has awakened, more plush Sangiovese cherry-spice aroma and the tart cherry acidity has come forward. Excellent #toscanaigt - very strong QPR.*** — 7 months ago

Mentore Morellino di Scansano Sangiovese Blend 2011

Vintage 2011 / what a totally different wine #sangiovese can give from one terroir or the other in #tuscany. This #morellinodiscansano is made with 85% sangiovese and 15% cabernet sauvignon and canaiolo. Very different compared with eg chianti. The wine gives beautiful red fruit / cherries when opened, clearly tannins even after 8 y, and a characteristic nice bitterness. It’s not easy, a wine with character. After 4 to 6 hours aeration the wine has softened, shows spicyness. I love this docg/origin especially when it has ripened. — a year ago

Estate Sonoma Valley-Sonoma County Sangiovese 2016

Beautiful #sangiovese #sonomacounty red. Spicy pepper aroma, forest floor, touch of nail polish nose. Lovely acid / fruit balance on the palate, soft tannins with a long juicy cherry finish. Pairs quite well with medium spicy Nepalese-Indian food. — 4 months ago

Ca' del Grifone

1967 Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2014

Really a solid #toscanaigt blend with 85% #sangiovese, classic earthy dried cherry spice from that grape. Acidity is a bit high with untamed tannins but for ~$8 at Trader Joe’s, going to say this is a great buy. — a year ago

Tua Rita

Rosso dei Notri SuperTuscan Blend 2016

Reminiscing about this amazing value Super Tuscan we had at Officina last week during restaurant week in DC.
2016 Tua Rita Rosso dei Notri
Maremma, Tuscany, Italy
Restaurant week at Officina and a perfect wine for our three course meal. Thank you Natalie for the recommendation. Deep ruby red in appearance. Took some time to open up on the nose but showed layers of mocha, floral, touch of minerals, blue and black fruits and spices. Medium tannins (5.5/10) with balanced acidity and a medium plus body. Plush Merlot definitely comes through in the mid palate with black currants, black cherries, chocolate, espresso and a touch of earthiness. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2023.
Crazy good wine for only $60.00 on a wine list. Made up of 50% Sangiovese with the remainder made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, making this a true Super Tuscan Blend. All the Sangiovese is aged in stainless steel while the rest are aged in barriques. This wine is from an area in the southern part of Tuscany called Maremma, more specifically Upper Maremma in the Colline Metallifare zone. Need to find some more of this IGT. Label is designed by Raffaele De Rosa.

Pazzo Call Me Crazy Napa Valley Sangiovese Blend 2016

@Ryan Carey nailed it on the review. My 2016 bottle was the same but I’ll add that this is a distinctly different #sangiovese blend from what you would find in Italy. More lush, less spice and tartness. — 6 months ago

Non Confunditur (NC) Rosso Toscano Sangiovese Blend 2016

In my experience, you really can’t go wrong with #tuscan #sangiovese blend for pairing with stone-fired pizza. Deep, luxuriant cassis and spicy-earthy nose on this one, great acidity and some furry tannins. — 9 months ago

Tenuta Alzatura

Montefalco Rosso 2015

Vintage 2015 / wine from #umbria central #italy with the unusual blend of #sangiovese #sagrantino and #merlot (on barrel). It was quite harsh in bitters/aftertaste immediately after opening, tannins also. But when it had aeration the wine softened and even shows frivolousness 🙃 Beautiful strawberries in smell, smooth taste. I liked this transformation. Awesome PRQ. I presume it will even gets better within a few years. — a year ago
