Vintage 2015 / wine from #umbria central #italy with the unusual blend of #sangiovese #sagrantino and #merlot (on barrel). It was quite harsh in bitters/aftertaste immediately after opening, tannins also. But when it had aeration the wine softened and even shows frivolousness 🙃 Beautiful strawberries in smell, smooth taste. I liked this transformation. Awesome PRQ. I presume it will even gets better within a few years. — 4 months ago
Reminiscing about this amazing value Super Tuscan we had at Officina last week during restaurant week in DC.
2016 Tua Rita Rosso dei Notri
Maremma, Tuscany, Italy
Restaurant week at Officina and a perfect wine for our three course meal. Thank you Natalie for the recommendation. Deep ruby red in appearance. Took some time to open up on the nose but showed layers of mocha, floral, touch of minerals, blue and black fruits and spices. Medium tannins (5.5/10) with balanced acidity and a medium plus body. Plush Merlot definitely comes through in the mid palate with black currants, black cherries, chocolate, espresso and a touch of earthiness. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2023.
Crazy good wine for only $60.00 on a wine list. Made up of 50% Sangiovese with the remainder made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, making this a true Super Tuscan Blend. All the Sangiovese is aged in stainless steel while the rest are aged in barriques. This wine is from an area in the southern part of Tuscany called Maremma, more specifically Upper Maremma in the Colline Metallifare zone. Need to find some more of this IGT. Label is designed by Raffaele De Rosa.

Vintage 2011 / what a totally different wine #sangiovese can give from one terroir or the other in #tuscany. This #morellinodiscansano is made with 85% sangiovese and 15% cabernet sauvignon and canaiolo. Very different compared with eg chianti. The wine gives beautiful red fruit / cherries when opened, clearly tannins even after 8 y, and a characteristic nice bitterness. It’s not easy, a wine with character. After 4 to 6 hours aeration the wine has softened, shows spicyness. I love this docg/origin especially when it has ripened. — 4 months ago
Cassis, fresh coconut, roasted coconut, cocoa powder, cocoa nibs. Presents on the nose as both mannerly and as a tightly-packed bomb of violets. Explodes on the palate in a panoply of fine, fresh and lifted flavors that echo the violet and cassis elements introduced in the aromas. The finish lasts more than a minute and is already suggestive of old Margaux and the greatest of Tuscan Sangiovese. #sangiovese #isoleeolena #toscana — 6 months ago
