Brookland Valley

Estate Chardonnay 2015

See previous notes. Put simply this is a stunning Chardonnay as its Show Record will attest, with at least 5 Trophies including Best Wine in Show at the Royal Hobart International Wine Show. A good combination of citrus and stone fruit with leesy complexity and incredible length of flavour. Demonstrates once again how great Margaret River is for Chardonnay. I’m glad I have 3 bottles left. A huge bargain at $30 per bottle. — 15 days ago

Home Hill

Kelly's Reserve Tasmania Pinot Noir 2014

Home Hill has become a rising star on the Australian Wine Show scene for the quality of their cool climate Pinot Noir. This wine had aromas of cherry and a little stemmy character. The palate was sweet with plums and black cherry. Very fluid and supple tannins - seamless. Medium weight palate and drinking well now. HH has a drinking window of 2017 to 2029. Cannot see it myself. My remaining 2 bottles will be gone in the next few years - just too delicious. Winner of the 2015 Jimmy Watson Trophy for the Best One Year old Dry Red at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show. From the most southerly vineyard in Australia. — a day ago

Lindeman's

Bin 50 Smooth Shiraz 1843

Cheapest wine at the restaurant ($41). I don’t think I would buy this again. A bit too sweet for me. There are better options at Costco for the same $$$ than one would pay for this at discounted retail. — 15 days ago

Penfolds

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2017

Referred to as the “Baby Grange,” blend of about 50/50 Cab Sauv & Shiraz, aged for 12 months in American oak, partly in previous-vintage Grange casks. Dark Ruby with aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet and complex spice. On the palate juicy blackberry flavors with notes of cacao and toasty spices. Well balanced with acidity, full ripe tannins, long ending with smoky spice, fruit well integrated with oak, drink over next 10 years+, will only get better. Consistent quality, aging well! Tried a few times! — 5 days ago

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2016

Ron R
9.5

How nice it is to move away from domestic wines, and relearn that there are equally outstanding examples on other continents - let me introduce you to exhibit A.
This is an Aussie benchmark displaying grapefruit, lemon and a hint of lanolin. Palate is squeaky clean, with a razor-sharp, flinty edge. Finishes long, with tension and weight. Kissed with light oak treatment, and pristine white fruits, this will run well beyond another 15 years. Brilliant.

Boy Meets Girl

Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon 2020

Nice, dry. Unoriginal but pleasant enough. Wouldn’t complain if I was served it, but wouldn’t seek it out. Purchased via Naked. — 12 days ago

Penfolds

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 1991

Boys penfolds taste off. First impression nose was distinctive with eculptus. Over the course of about 7 houra of decanter, this wine improves significantly especially on the nose. The final glass reflect the true top class wine of australia. Balance, abit of blue fruit and overally the crowd went from saying being dissapointed to saying it is world class standard. Think it can be kept for longer time, maybe another 5 to 10 yrs — 9 days ago

Peter Lehmann

Stonewell Barossa Shiraz 2006

Deep Ruby in colour - very dark for a 15 year old red with no bricking at this stage. Blackberry and chocolate with ripe black fruits on nose and palate - not as pruney as previous Stonewell notes. Lush and full bodied from selected old vine Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa - in the Greenock district amongst others. This is Barossa Shiraz at its best from a good vintage. Hard not to like - warm and comforting - perfect for a cooler night with pork chops. — a day ago

VSV 1885 Shiraz 2010

My note of 49 weeks ago tells the full story of this historic vineyard planted in 1885 and tended by 6th generation Ralph Schrapel. Part of the Peter Lehmann VSV (Very Special Vineyard) series. This wine is delicious old school Barossa with ripe plum, dark chocolate, cherry, liquorice and coffee grounds. A hint of prune on the nose. Great to be drinking these rich reds as the weather cools down. This vineyard is in the Ebenezer sub district of the Barossa. My last bottle sadly. — 8 days ago

I love this producer, especially Stonewall. Fave vintage was 94, of which I had a case. Never seen the label of the wine that you are tasting - enjoy 😊

Ron - the VSV series are small production. With this particular wine they only made 685 cases. Possibly none were exported.
