Very impressive showing. Mature but still holding lots of fruit. Best red wine of an amazing evening! — a month ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Okay. Again the same dilemma. If a wine does not meet expectation is it basically bad (for me)? 🤔 because in life everything is relative, right? Any thoughts on puzzling matter??The wine was well balanced, dark red fruit flavors, polished, smooth tannins, good intensity and concentration, but limited length and lacking any meaningful complexity… Eight year old left bank Bordeaux. A fourth or fifth growth winery, maybe not, can’t remember for sure. Do remember what I paid though, $120. Definitely too much for what we experienced this evening…. as to our expectations. — 5 months ago

@Jan de Weerd from reviews not personal experience. Most let this wine age twenty plus years?

Trout Lily Ranch

Adam's Vineyard Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2018

My last bottle of this. It’s really good in a fuller style Oregon Pinot. Complex nose has gravelly loam, sandalwood notes, sappy cherry ooze, crushed rock, a little autumn baking spice. Full and broad in the mouth, but the flavors exhibit a nice balance of fruit, mineral, and underbrush notes. Medium acids, and a little very fine-grained tannin makes an appearance in the back half of the finish. Very nice — 25 days ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Part of a Chateau Mouton Rothschild vertical from 1988-1990. Early on, this was a probably my favorite of the three Moutons and showed well throughout the course of the evening. Expressive red and dark forest fruits with tobacco, leather, earth and baking spices. The structure was still showing its tensile strength. This has a long life ahead. Drink now through 2040. — 3 months ago

This isn’t a surprise considering the people behind it and the quality of the juice

Krug

Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne Blend

The usual. Crisp and aromatic with a typical Krug touch. Great for a late summer evening — 5 months ago

I should have noted that. It was another one of my 168s

What a beautiful Pinot. One of the best I’ve tried from Oregon. Elegance. Balance. Depth. Just lovely. — 2 months ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2007

No formal notes . Pretty deep Amber , copper colour . Intense marmalade , saffron , creme caramel . Rich on the palate with rich marmalade , saffron notes . Good acidity , but rich. Good length . This is drinkable now and shows quite an advanced colour , though due to its richness will probably carry on delivering for another 20 years , perhaps longer .

This was a rather fascinating evening put together by our incredibly generous host. All 2007 reds were served blind in two flights: 1st Mouton, Haut Brion, Cheval Blanc , La Mission Haut Brion then Latour , Lafite , Petrus and Margaux . Overall the wines showed well , and were mostly enjoyable to drink now , though there is no rush . This somewhat maligned vintage can give a lot of enjoyment in the right environment, I certainly wouldn’t hold back from opening or purchasing any of these wines . They mostly show good density of fruit , personality and elegance , with good freshness. These are not powerful wines , and at times perhaps the fruit can be a little cooler or greener but I was pleasantly surprised by the way they performed , just goes to show you should never write off a vintage without trying the wines !

Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1970

Had the distinct pleasure of enjoying this lovely vintage this evening with a nice bolognese - excellent! Initial taste after opening was nice but the longer it sat the more smooth it became. — 5 months ago

I was just singing the praises of the 1870 vintage and for a second thought this was it. I’m sure this 1970 was great. But, 1870 legendary. Many Master Sonm’s would say it is the greatest red wine ever made.
