Château Mouton Rothschild
Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
Taken to Hawksmoor in NYC for our uncle’s 75th. Decanted in hotel for 7 hrs before dinner. Dark reddish amber edges with dark tawny color center. Opaque. Great aged Bordeaux nose. Notes of black fruit, tobacco and cigar, cassis, old desk wood, saddle leather, some anise, some barnyard and a little mint. Rich and silky in the mouth. Long finish. The bottle (mid shoulder) wasn’t in as good of condition as the one we had a few weeks ago, but the outcome was similar. Family and the Somm all loved it, as did I.

Nov 17th, 2022Tasted blind. Dark tawny, opaque. Powerful nose. Notes of red and black fruit, leather and cassis, dark soil. Has the funk. We're all in the same camp of where it's from so there is lots of working out who made it. I go with a 59 Latour guess. Really good today, better than a bottle we had of this earlier in the year. Thanks Stan!

Oct 31st, 2022Tasted blind. Tawny color with light rims. Old wine nose. Notes of raspberry, cola, old cedar desk, some tobacco and a little menthol. Rich and long in the mouth. Lighter than the 59 next to it. Also tighter, but opens up over the evening. Really good but not as good as the 59.

Jun 12th, 2022Tasted blind. Dark, regal reddish tawny. Notes of black fruit, roses, leather, steak blood, flowers, crushed nuts, some mint, some fresh cut cigar and some dirt. Young appearing and also seems young in the mouth. If we didn't know this was a 61 I would veer to a guess of maybe an 82. We all guessed this as 61 Mouton, although we're helped now by knowing there are only two first growths left that we haven't had yet tonight. Awesome juice that will be remembered as being young and seemingly immortal.(M's 60th bday 12th of 14)

May 23rd, 2021Thick and opaque in the glass. Dark and brooding. Still ruby. Nose of dark fruits, lead pencil, a little menthol and saddle leather. Great roundness in the mouth. Everything is integrated. Still young. Yes. Still young.
