Medium garnet ruby core and quite wide garnet rim . This shows some development with rose , porcini , dark cherry , balsamic hint, spiced strawberry, iodine . On the palate this is quite deep and tannic , with a strong mineral note, dark cherry , violets, good balanced acidity and good iron filling finish . This needs a little more time to integrate further the quite present tannins . So better in 5 or so years and will last well a further 10 or so. Promising . — a month ago

Been waiting a long time to open this baby. When first obtained (6 or 7 years ago) it was completely closed and almost undrinkable. Aromas have now fully opened, like sweet flowers and a hint of caramel. Tannins are waaay softer, durable but give nice structure to the wine. Blackberry, oak, medjool dates. — a month ago

Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a garnet color with a slightly watery rim and a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with notes staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, tar, roses, dried herbs, licorice, exotic spices and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. The alcohol is medium+. Initial conclusions: this could be Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Grenache or Pinot Noir. However, the color, transparency and tannins can’t lead me to any other place than Italy and this simply has too many of the calling cards for Nebbiolo. When considering the quality of the fruit and power of the wine, I think this is Barolo from a recent, warm but challenging vintage. My call is Nebbiolo, from Italy, from Piemonte, from Barolo, 2017 from a mostly traditional producer. “Whoop! There it is!” I think the 2017’s (in general) are beginning to show pretty well…following a somewhat similar path to the 2015’s in some respects. A solid annata from the other Oddero. Classic barbaresco. Fine tannins and expressive fruit - it’s bright and just absolutely delicious. Great acidity. Floral and cherry - with just a hint of earth, in contrast to other nebbiolos the tar action is subtle. — 25 days ago
