Nebbiolo Blend

Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello

Monprivato di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2003

Time Tested

03 was historically hot & dry. Did Monprivato succeed despite these conditions?

DAY 1
Served the wine with the Vinloq System which allows nitrogen to be pulled into the bottle with pouring
👀Brown/orange mixed with red
👃Cherries, tobacco, tar & roses. Some stewed/dried fruit
👅Mature. Florals and fruit are present. Light. Could use more acid. Easy to drink. Balanced

Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my fridge

DAY 10
Nice aged notes. Savory. Okay precision. Tannins are good. Kept improving in the glass

DAY 17
👃Classic & beautiful with aged notes. Finally what I was hoping for👍
👅Drinking well. Cherry. Significant tar. Savory

Similar on the 3 days, but the nose was most beautiful on DAY 17

The pedigree was apparent here in this lovely barolo despite the vintage conditions. Balance was retained with enough precision to allow the Mascarello Monprivato personality to come through👏

Conterno Gattinara Nebbiolo 2016

The most Burgundian Nebbiolo I’ve come across. Stunning nose. Rustic barnyard notes, iron, cherry, kirsch, tobacco, and nutmeg. Lifted, perfumed, yet slightly funky. Dry, but not Barolo dry. Acidity adds vibrancy and balance. Minerality, slightly underripe red fruit. Cranberry and chalk. Lingers on the finish. So good. — 5 days ago

Lazzarito Barolo Nebbiolo 2006

So powerful from the nose through the long and juicy finish, beautifully resolved, round and delicate at the same time. Red flowers, vanilla-infused bright cherry, hints of asphalt. Savoury. In a perfect place after short decant. — 2 days ago

Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

It’s either bottle variation or that the 2+ months of rest time has done this wonders. It was so different from the first bottle. This was all red berries, menthol, tobacco, and spice. Good energy, though the warmth does come through. Chewy tannins with a bittersweet finish, touched by some mineral and woody elements. Enjoyable, though I would have liked some floral notes. — 13 hours ago

Castelletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

Popped and poured. The 2014 “Castelletto” is garnet with an transparent core and very slight staining of the tears. On the nose, cherry lozenge, roses, dried green herbs, tomato leaf. On the palate, the wine is dry, high tannin, medium++ acid. On the palate, cherry candy, cherry raisin, dried earth and iron minerals. A little thin. Long finish. The nose is more interesting than the palate at this stage. I gotta wonder if time will be kind to the 2014 vintage? Anyway, fun to check in on. — 8 days ago

Vigneto Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

Consistently Brilliant

Burlotto’s Monvigliero is one of my favorite wines in the world 🌎

DAY 1
Served with the Vinloq System
👃Needs an hour in the glass and 65F/18C. Underripe strawberry, eucalyptus, herbs, & roses. The olive tapenade arrives last. Can a wine smell silky?(synesthesia?)
👅Red cherry fruit, herbs, olives, tar & florals. Velour texture. Tar and cherries linger on the long and lovely finish. Elegant & refined

Slow Decanted the remaining wine in my fridge

DAY 11
👃More fruit than before? Smells totally amazing!
👅The elegant side of Barolo. Total class. Please don’t let this glass empty🙏🏼

The wine was stellar on each occasion 🍷

@"Odedi" Yes. My notes here and on Instagram @Vinloq.notes show how wines evolve when served with the Vinloq System. Check out Vinloq.com for videos/info etc. It’s a simple way to keep all wines from oxidizing for 7-10 days. Better made/cellar worthy wines often improve. Every wine is different. I show my results with my notes
Hope that helps.
BTW, I follow you here and on Instagram and appreciate your thorough posts👍

Langhe Nebbiolo 2019

Transparent garnet red. Inviting nose of black cherry and ashen violet. Well structured, full palate yields black cherry, violets, terra cotta, and soft anise. Firm, velvety tannins. Medium plus acidity. Excellent Nebbiolo with depth and structure enough to satisfy your Barolo cravings with the Tuesday night meal. Beef, pasta, rustic stews, and other hearty red wine fare will be just as at home as the take-out pizza. Drink now through 2027. — 5 days ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

N:Wow that’s interesting, Cherries(black), tar, lots of red flowers, salt!, citrus rind like English marmalade,
Granted it’s new glasses and I haven’t done a hth.
P: Cherries, Strawberries, tarry viscosity, ready to go after 2+ hrs out. Delicate tannins present, a dark, brooding wood/soil quality is there. Almost chocolate on the nose when you sip. As this airs, tannins build.Nice acidity balance, beautiful wine

Riserva Pora Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2013

Pora is a “lighter” cru and this was noticeable. At age nine I didn’t expect so much evolution into it’s tertiary stage. And this for colour, nose and taste. Don’t know if this is normal. But nevertheless a superb wine! I just wouldn’t keep it for more than another 5 years. — 7 days ago

Lyle Fass
9.4

Nose is very expressive with tar, roses and big time cherries and also cherry flower. Minerals and wood shavings. Clay? Gorgeous wild mint and major road tar. Really complex and expressive nose. Palate is juicy and clean. Elegant and compact. Lovely intensity but never heavy. Good concentration. Nice velvety tannins and very grippy. Long finish. Could use a few more years but wanted to check in. With air this has gotten so lovely. Sweet, silky, velvety and lovely mid season cherry attack. Amazingly pure and balanced. 9.3 to 9.4. — 12 days ago
