Ultra-fine tannins. Already beautifully melded into a velvet suit. A 100pt wine? No. But was worth the “en premieur” pricing.

Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.

Mind numbingly gorgeous. Believe the hype on the great Bordeaux producer’s 2009 vintage.

It is simply one of the best Bordeaux’s this young I’ve ever had. It’s is silky on the palate. The structure, tension, length and balance are stunning and this vintage is just getting started in its better evolution. The fruits are some of the very best Bordeaux fruits I’ve had. Ripe, ruby, lush; blackberries & dark cherries. Both chocolate, soft, layered baking spice, soft soils, understated; leather, tobacco, graphite, ruby, candied purple, blue/dark fresh and withering florals. The acidity is dead on. The finish is well balanced & glorious. This is an amazing wine that will blow your hair back at 25 years of age.

Photos of; our dinner group, tasting room at Pontet Canet, the horse plows they still use in the fields and Chateau Pontet Canet.

Just learned that Mr. Parker gave this 100 points. Nose is stunningly perfumed, exotic, complex. Palate fades a bit too quickly. Alcohol seems higher than stated 14%. Not a perfect wine, but very good.

Brilliant example of what the 09 Bordeaux are doing - two hour decant and little more in the glass and wow - explosions occurring simultaneously in my mouth - massive fruit and huge dark color - what a smile what a smile what a really big smile

We switched gears at dinner and went French. This wine was up for WOTN. Raspberry, limestone - intense flavor but not overly tannic- really impressive with the balance. Smoke licorice with such a deep color. This went fast, wish I had more

Nose of blackberry, leather, earth, and a bit of cocoa. Blackberry, raspberry, cocoa nib, and earthy flavors backed by full, but well integrated tannins. Finish goes on for well over a minute. Entering its drinking window now, but should hold on for several years.

4/23/9/5/5 +50 = 96 pts.

RP 100 💯 point wine. Can I just say “spectacular”? We double decanted for two hours and still tight. Black berries and currant, smokey violets, graphite, anise. Big tannins, long finish, yet highly refined structure. Did I say “spectacular”? 😜🍷
