Morgon Gamay 2018

It’s always surprisingly multifaceted. This time there’s a menthol quality broadening the usually joyous bojo raspberry/cranberry/tomato. And so persistent. — 6 days ago

@Jae Cho Wonderful! Nothing irresponsible about teaching kids to appreciate fine wine in moderation at a young age, in fact I think a good argument can be made that it’s the height of responsible parenting compared to the alternate ways most kids learn to relate to alcohol. So, I say have your cake and eat it too!

@Josh Morgenthau Yes! Hard to binge on keystone light in a dank frat house when you know the good stuff.

Domaine Marcel Deiss

Engelgarten Bergheim Alsace Riesling Blend 2001

Alder Yarrow
9.4

Some of my most favorite wines in the world. I discovered this bottle and a few others of its ilk recently lurking in the inventory of a local wine shop being sold for a song. I bought them all and opened the first one today. A bright Halloween orange in color this wine smells of orange peel, dark honey and exotic flowers. In the mouth, lightly sweet notes of orange blossom syrup, citrus peel, wet pavement and autumn leaves make for a gorgeous silky concoction. The acidity is filigreed and softening, but still very much a part of the wine. Exotic and alluring. A one-of-a-kind field blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Beurot, Muscat, and Pinot Noir. — a month ago

Les Chaumes Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir

A good lunch wine! With an aerator and about 20 minutes the wine was well balanced, the femininity of Vosne and went well with the pasta and salad. No great shakes here but a perfectly respectable lunch wine! — 16 days ago

Cuvée Camille Morgon Gamay 2018

Warm vintage cru Beaujolais sourced from a tiny plot in the Côte du Py vineyard. There’s a lot to be said about the fruit-forward spiciness, but for me the nuances are flattened by a richness I associate with a higher ABV - the wines that are coming to mind are Williams Selyem’s pinots rather than a Beaujolais or Burgundy. Not really for me but a worthwhile avenue to explore if you want to try a different, relatively subtler version of a big red. — a month ago

Les Longues Terres Mâcon-Loche Chardonnay

A favorite producer from Macon. This tasted like it saw a little oak. Weight, acid and tart apple. Excellent value. — 15 days ago

Raisins Gaulois Gamay 2019

Weedy/green/stemmy. More savory than fruity, hint of raspberry bramble. Nice texture, medium plus acidity. Faint pepper on finish. Best with a chill on it. — a month ago

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2017

Much softer than the 2014 I had about a year ago. But still easy to gulp — a month ago
