Tonight the wine of choice is the 2018 Long Meadow Ranch Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc.
On the nose I am getting honeydew melon, mango, white peach, green apple and white flowers.
On the palate there is succulent notes of grapefruit, lime, green apple, minerals and fresh-cut green grass.
This wine is medium bodied with a crisp clean mouthfeel, mouthwatering medium+ acidity that moves nicely into a long citrusy finish. With the world seemingly opening back up from its long year and a half slumber, please continue to be safe and healthy and be kind to one another. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 4 days ago
Quivira is one of those under the radar producers that consistently makes compelling, authentic wines. Their commitment to biodynamics is obvious the moment you walk the property. Popped and poured; consumed over two days. In the glass, the wine is a bright ruby color that stains the glass. No signs of sediment at this young stage. On Day 1, the wine was a darned good quaffer but nothing particularly striking and, in fact, seemed almost indistinguishable from any run of the mill, Dry Creek Zinfandel. By Day 2 however, things became much more interesting and the structure really started to show more which balanced out the fruit. The nose remains quite reticent with delicate red fruit, lavender, underbrush and pastilles. On the palate, tart red cherry fruit, blackberries, plums and some green banana emerging on the finish. Medium tannin; medium+ acid which lingers providing a long, satisfying finish. Ultimately, this is a really enjoyable Primitivo that needs a lot of air to really appreciate. — a month ago
Notes of cassis on the nose, black cherries on the tongue, bright/fresh acidity, medium-bodied, smooth medium finish - not your typical cab. A pleasant surprise. — 2 months ago
1.5 hour decant (lots of chunky/fine sediment). An unbelievable deep dark ruby red with a little bricking. On the nose: jumping from the glass are sweet cherries, slight funky earth, mint, floral, slight menthol, vanilla leather. Taste: A smooth, rich, layered full body wine with dark cherries, chocolate, currants, spice, minerals, and a charcoal graphite long dry finish. Some tannins still present and will wait a couple years to open my remaining bottles...but, still rocking it this Saturday night!!! YUM. — 11 days ago
Bee Hunter Wines Eagle Point Ranch Grenache 2015 Mendocino, California
A very pretty color of ruby with a very wide brick rim.
Interesting nose of blackberries, cedar, cooked cherries, raisins, figs, chocolates, sweet vanilla, cola, spices, mint and black pepper.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry and very fruity on the palate with cooked cherries and strawberries, lemon peel, vanilla, light raisins, dried fruits, cedar, herbs, licorice, cola, chocolates, sweet vinaigrette, spices and black pepper.
Long finish with fine tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a delicious Grenache from Mendocino County in California. Much lighter than I expected it to be, but it is so yummy.
This Single Vineyard is good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime, when it shows the complexity.
This six year old is peaking now, and drinking very nicely with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.
Alcohol is not showing at all, so watch out. Nicely balanced at this point. Easy drinking and tasty.
A great sipping wine, but good with food too. I paired it with Brie cheese and crackers.
14.8% alcohol by volume.

This was our “back-up” bottle just in case the 1981 Clos du Val Zinfandel was DOA. In the end, the vitality of the ’81 rendered a back-up unnecessary however, we were resolved to open this nevertheless. The Old Hill Ranch is a historic vineyard endowed with a natural beauty that has few peers. Carefully farmed as a field blend with 30 other varieties, the vineyard is thought to be home to the oldest vines grafted to St. George rootstock (some of them are over 130 years old!!). The wine pours a bright ruby with no signs of sediment. On the nose, dark sour cherry, meat fat, brambles, and pie spice. On the palate, a mix of tart dark and red fruits, minerals, and a soft touch of baking spice. The finish is dry and long. Remarkable structure. Medium+ tannin, medium+ acid. This is a wine with tremendous vigor and it’s just getting started. While this is drinking very well already, I suspect these will have a very long life and should drink very well into the 2030’s and possibly, beyond. — 16 days ago
Full blown Zinfandel with waves of flavors and structure. In a league with top shelf Zins that cost $$. Has a long future ahead. 🍷🍷👍 — a month ago
This Mineral Springs Ranch, Soter Vineyars, Pinot Noir just hits all the marks. Vintage 2017. ABV 13.8%.
This biodynamic wine is concentrated, complex, has good intensity, is well-balanced, and has a long, elegant finish. I could sip this beauty all night. — a month ago
