Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1997

Dark tawny and almost opaque. Bing cherry nose. Also notes of dark moist soil, menthol, raspberries and rhubarb, Asian spice and more ripe bing cherries. Delicate fruit and softened tannins, (not what I was expecting from a 97, in a good way). Very pleasant mouth feel. Gets a bit candied with more air. Outperformed my expectations. — 2 months ago

Dark. Dense. Thick. Too young but very promising. Super fruit behind a low wall of tannin. — 4 months ago

Domaine Bachelet

Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1996

A jaw dropping nose. Iodine, rockpools, uni, deep blue fruit, blackcurrant, violets. Gorgeous depth and freshness with supple fruit and a bloody depth. So pure and poised. Loads of energy and vigor. Amazing — a month ago

Huge wine. Definitely feels more like a gevrey. Very masculine, structured, concentrated. Red-currants, white pepper, hints of pine trees on the nose. persistent tannin that’s chewy through a super long finish that just lasts forever. This is insanely good and will likely keep getting better for years. — 2 months ago
