Love this site. So finesse driven. An essence of Volnay type of site. Big, ripe and sappy red and black cherries that are so forward and so vivid. Stunning depth and freshness. Gorgeous earth and minerals. So nimble and pure. Red licorice. Love the controlled ripeness. Yes it’s ripe but yes it’s within the realm of being reasonably ripe and attractive. Palate is joyous. Nimble and elegant and shockingly pure and so ethereal. Sappy and sweet and so silky. Volnay defined. Lithe and elegant tannins and I swear this is the silkiest 2020 I’ve had yet. The purity of this is off the charts. I’m gobsmacked how great this is. I know this will go higher with air. Weightless wine with wonderful intensity. What a duo the 19 and 20. Now the nose has pumpkin spice and other spices. Spicecake vibe for sure. — 15 days ago
Of the 3 grand cru Chablis chez Raveneau, Valmur is my favorite. I find Blanchots less minerally, Valmur the most minerally, Clos just behind Valmur. The best ever for me, shockingly, is 1994 Valmur, then 1996. We had a stunning wine of the trip 2010 Valmur in Champagne at Les Crayeres.
So I was eager to drink 2002. Fabulous from the get go. Pop and pour, first w a pâté de campagne, then with roast duck and herb risotto at Opal in Santa Barbara. Waiter foolishly declined the proffered pour.
Just super citrus zest bejeweled with minerals and hints of menthol, super acidity, all balanced and long, depth and weight with no heaviness. Simply great Chablis. Loved it. — 6 days ago
Not as good as the 2018 which is weird as 19 is usually better than 18 in Cote Rotie. Let’s see what air does. Noseis funky, floral, spicey and a bit horsey. Hopefully it blows off. Very nice framing minerality but the horse is here and will gallop off into the distance soon. Paste is ripe and juicy with terrific power, depth and concentration. Big, ripe and sweet tannins. Super pure and super young. Engaging freshness and energy but the tannins are a bit aggressive and less focused than I’d like. 9.3 for now. Let’s see. It is opening up to be very elegant but also there is a sur maturite factor that’s not that great and the fruits is losing focus. HMMMMMMM??? — 24 days ago
Pale yellow with aromas of ripe white stone and citrus fruits with dried floral grassy notes, aged on lees for 5 months. On the palate flavors of rich apple and lemon with crisp acidity and pronounced mineral notes. Medium+ finish, ending with creamy citrus, herb and flinty mineral character. Good now and will improve over next several years! — 10 days ago
One of the wines that made me fall in love with the Buffet estate. Been a minute since I’ve had it. Chenes aromas just hit different. Wow. Stunning breadth here. So complex. Floral, spice, red cherries. All presented in such detail. Layered, supple and complex. 9.8 nose. Wow. Truly magnificent. Moving me to tears. Or is that my allergies? What a nose. Really just something else. Palate is a joy. Unreal freshness, acids and complexity. Such deep and vivid cherry fruit and a 5% creaminess that just adds so much. Terrific purity, concentration and sap. Velvety and sweet tannins. Unreal length. A masterpiece. — 15 days ago
Elegant ripe aromas of fruit & citrus with a huge, broad mouthfeel, but still not unfurled and offering tension. — 13 days ago
