Stags' Leap Winery

Napa Valley Petite Sirah 1977

Stags' Leap Winery was one of the early pioneers in establishing Petite Sirah as a premium varietal. The vines date back to 1893, but the block is actually a field blend of 85% Petite Sirah and 15% other unknown varietals.
Our group tasted the 1977 - 1992 vintages (32 to 47 years old). The 1977 was my favorite along with the group’s.

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Beautiful nose of baking spices and unknown herbs. Also vanilla and cherry. And bam! OMG is this gorgeous. Very fully flavored and luscious with more baking spices and cherry. Higher alcohol of 14.5%, which seems to dominate the wine. Love this! Decanted for 45 minutes. — 2 years ago

An amazing Brunello! Relatively unknown in the US, but Italy’s best kept secret! So smooth, clean finish — 3 years ago

Fairview Cellars

The Bear Premier Series Okanagan Valley Red Blend 2017

Bordeaux-style blend with finesse. One of BC’s best unknown producers of the big reds. Beautifully silky and well-rounded tannins. Blackberry, cassis, caramel, cedar, smoke and vanilla notes on the palette. Excellent wine. — 4 years ago

Cuvée Silice Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc

Vintage unknown, 2021 entered below. Our first Loire S b. Loved it. Couldn’t detect any “fume”. Will try a Sancerre next to compare. At WA Frost w W & friends. — 2 months ago

Domaine L'Oustal Blanc (Isabel et Claude Fonquerle)

K Vin de France Carignane

We tasted nine Minervois Red Blends (Languedoc region of France), an unknown AOC to our group. This was designated a “vin de table” because as a single-varietal, it did not conform to the Minervois arcane AOC rules. I loved it anyways — 9 months ago

Saint-Romain Chardonnay 2020

Chardonnay from different parcels around Saint Romain, a relatively unknown appellation not far from Meursault, but at a fraction of the price. Vinified in tank and oak. Pale golden color. Aromas of pear, vanilla, some oaky notes. Medium to full-bodied. Quite rich and round. Citrus and minerals on the palate. Tasty, nice saline finish — 2 years ago

Domaine Guyon

Echezeaux Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2009

Not an expert in burgundy but I liked it a lot. It was a risky bottle that was stored in unknown conditions. 2009 drunk in 2024. Nevertheless, it showed great balance of acidity, sweetness and tannins, although somewhat disassembled structure. Power manifests itself when you sip but not for long. First notes were lac and leather, then periods of quietness, but then evolved with fresh oaky notes, then jammed wild strawberries, and then freshly crushed ripe blueberries. Overall evolution was not long but did driver very very pleasant experience. — 7 months ago

Tenuta Carlina

La Togata Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Chosen at a good Italian restaurant at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast off the Wine List. Chosen for the vintage - the producer unknown to me. Brief notes. Earthy with a deep black cherry note. Persistent but smooth tannins. Went well with a slow roasted shoulder of lamb with Pappardelle pasta. Celebrating the sale of our apartment held for over 21 years on the Gold Coast. — 2 years ago

Good choice of food with Brunello.
People need to understand…slow cooked is best…..with a little Parmesan

Agreed Jamie. Some years ago Barb and I had a food and wine tour of Tuscany with Peter Scudamore-Smith MW and his wife and I recall having slow cooked dishes like this with wonderful Brunello which matched the food perfectly

Château de la Négly

La Falaise Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape Red Blend 2018

Unknown % of GSM+Carignan

Delicious fruit, raspberry and boysenberry. Dark notes in the direction of chocolate and Fig, nuance without being the direct flavor profiles (wrapper of dark chocolate bar etc) . Woody notes from Tannin, and interesting milky aspect at times.

Enjoy young (now-3years) fruit is fantastic, tannins are fine and smooth.
Very happy with this selection, great PQR.

Give a min 1.5 hour decant, if not 3 hours. Didn’t decant, keeps getting better with more air & time. Second day is great.

Very yummy, more please.
