Les Lecons des Maitres Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon

Oxidative notes upon opening that became more subdued as the tropical fruit developed. Oak well integrated now. — 7 days ago

Cornas Syrah 2015

Lovely flavor with low tannins. Opened up beautifully. Was a great wine to come home to after a long trip — 3 days ago

Adobe Guadalupe

Rafael Red Blend 2015

Magnificent Nebbiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Baja. Floral, earthy notes of Nebbiolo with the lush, warm notes of Napa Cab. Very impressive — 5 days ago

Wolfer Goldgrube Spätlese Riesling 2002

JKT
9.0

On Latham trip for Marie. Afraid this bottle pulled from front basemen stash may be just at the brink of decline. Nice deep golden color and that beautiful Riesling from VL nose except just a tinge of oxidative notes. This bottle perhaps suffered a bit from subpar storage plus age. Better fine the remaining bottles to check out. — 12 days ago

Cavanna Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2015

Medium garnet hue with heavy tearing. Lots of tart, red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate primary notes. Delicate white pepper notes. Secondary notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and cedar. Some tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and earth. Medium(+) body and alcohol (actually 14% ABV). Strong tannins and acidity. Medium(+) finish. — 2 days ago

Aloft

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

This wine IMO has matured and is in the ripe drinking window right now. This wine has some blackberry influence but a lot of the fruit in the front and middle seems to be boysenberry, black cherry, dates, and sweet plums. Compared to other vintages that I've had (they've all been more current in the last few years), they have all been darker for sure, but Aloft has always seemed to be a touch sweeter than the Charles Krug Cold Springs and has also usually had a bit more punch. I think this one is starting to show a tiny bit of age. I think it's been a while since I decided to open an 09 Aloft. Finished with some pepper notes and a little eucalyptus. Went well with a huge variety of seafoods in the fact that it wasn't a unidimensional blackberry bomb. Enjoyed on the last night of our beach trip. — 16 days ago

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

This Pichon-Baron was in the earliest peak of its window, pure ✏️ and graphite cigar box nose, rich, intense, leading cassis, tar and a mineral and wonderfully tannic trip over the palate and a long, 40 second finish that was reminiscent dry red clay. Good news: I have 11 more in the case I cracked last night. Bad news: I’ll be in my 60’s before these open up and the secondary stuff really starts to show. — 9 days ago

I’m begging for my 60’s ! I’ll I can say as an old wino don’t wait too long. Things happen as you get older.

Good to see this finally coming around. I’d had it four times over its life & found it to be either closed or not ready.
